The Philadelphia Eagles capped another incredible year with a trip to the Super Bowl, but came up short in their quest for the Lombardi. They fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 version of the Big Game, failing to hold onto a 10-point halftime lead. The Chiefs prevailed 38-35 on a last-second field goal, despite the fact that PA online sportsbooks had the Eagles as slight favorites.

You’ll be able to find all the latest Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl odds, point spread, line movement and player props once the new season gets going in the summer.

Latest Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Updates:

  • The Philadelphia Eagles (-1.5) lost in Super Bowl LVII to the Kansas City Chiefs, 38-35. After an incredible first half that saw the Birds lead by 10, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs came out of the break with an impressive final two quarters to the season. They outscored Philly by 13 in the second half to claim their second title in just four years.
  • Mahomes earned his second Super Bowl MVP on Sunday night, providing a decent payout for anyone who backed him at +120 odds. He only threw for 187 yards, but was an efficient 21-of-27 to go with three touchdowns. Even though he scared Chiefs fans before the half, his ankle held up quite well, as Mahomes also added 44 rushing yards.

How to read Eagles betting lines

A good part of the appeal for betting on the Eagles and the rest of the NFL is that there’s plenty of time for analyzing the numbers and researching the matchups. Odds come out early in the week, and you’ll find all of the upcoming contests and odds listed out at sportsbooks. Here’s how an Eagles line might look at PointsBet Pennsylvania and other books:

  • Dallas Cowboys +120 +2.5 (-110) O 49.5 (-110)
  • Philadelphia Eagles -140 -2.5 (-110) U 49.5 (-110)

Game listings will look something like our example and have odds for three top bet types: moneyline, point spread, and totals. Moneyline odds are standalone numbers, while spreads and totals have the listed numbers and odds for the bets. Here’s what you need to know.

Eagles moneyline odds

One of the simplest bets on the board to understand, and a great starting point for newbies as a result. All you have to do is make your pick on who you think will win the game.

  • Dallas Cowboys +120
  • Philadelphia Eagles -140

Negative numbers point to the favored side, while the odds are positive for underdogs. The difference between the numbers can give you insight into the closeness of the matchup.

Eagles point spread odds

Spread betting adds another strategic element to each game. Beyond trying to figure out who will win, you also have to decide which side will cover the spread.

  • Dallas Cowboys +2.5 (-110)
  • Philadelphia Eagles -2.5 (-110)

Oddsmakers set the number, and bettors can then choose the favorite minus the points or the underdog plus the spread. To win, your selection has to cover the amount of the spread.

Eagles over/under odds (totals odds)

This bet has nothing to do with winners and losers. It’s all about the total combined points that will be scored in the game in relation to the estimated total listed by sportsbooks.

  • Over 49.5 (-110)
  • Under 49.5 (-110)

Totals betting falls into distinct ranges for NFL games: 40 or less for defensive battles, 50 or more for potential shootouts, and all other contests in the middle of the two extremes.

Eagles player props and futures odds explained

Betting on the outcome of Eagles games is just one of the ways to get in on the action. The overall menu of NFL betting odds is vast. Two of the most popular Philadelphia Eagles betting options include prop bets and the futures market. Find updated Eagles Super Bowl props here.

Props are side bets, or “game inside of the game” wagers. Futures bets are on the season’s biggest games and end results. You can find available props by clicking through on the individual game listings. The offerings revolve around things that might happen during the game, such as:

  • Who will be the game’s leading rusher – Miles Sanders or Saquon Barkley?
  • Dallas Goedert Over/Under 45.5 yards receiving

Beyond the performances of individual players, props can also revolve around game or team circumstances. Examples include “Which side will have more rushing yards” and “Will the Eagles have a pick-6 in the game?”

Futures are bet you can place on an event that won’t be decided until down the road. If you click through on the NFL link at online sportsbooks and sportsbook apps, there’s usually a dedicated section for the available markets. There are a wide range of futures to consider, including:

  • Over/Under on Eagles regular-season win totals.
  • Team to win Super Bowl, Conference, or Division.
  • Player to win Rookie of the Year, MVP, etc.

Upon release, futures market odds are based on the way the sportsbook sees things. From there, the betting public weighs in, so there will be movement in the numbers as a result. A well-timed futures bet that comes to fruition can pay off quite handsomely.

Best head coaches in Eagles history

Nick Sirianni has the Eagles back in the Super Bowl for the 2022 season as the team’s 21st full time head coach, guiding them to an impressive 14-3 record in his second season.

He could be just the second Eagles coach to lift the Lombardi Trophy, potentially joining Doug Pederson from six years ago. Sirianni will go up against former Eagles head coach Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs for the title.

If we look back at the last 10 head coaches in franchise history, continuity hasn’t always ruled the day.

History of the Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles first came into existence in 1933. It took some time for things to get going, but the team began finding success in the mid-1940s. After losing the NFL Championship Game in 1947, the team went on to win back-to-back titles in 1948-49.

The team couldn’t match the success over the next decade, but the 1960 team did. Led by league MVP Norm Van Brocklin, the team defeated the Green Bay Packers to lay claim to their third NFL Championship.

That would be the last high note for quite some time. The team struck out on reaching the postseason for over a decade, but head coach Dick Vermeil helped to engineer a turnaround upon his hiring in 1976.

From 1978 through 1981, the team made it to the playoffs each season. They made it to Super Bowl XV following the 1980 season, falling to the Oakland Raiders by a score of 27-10. Vermeil stepped down after the 1982 campaign while citing burnout.

The team meandered along for the middle portion of the decade, but things started to look up towards the end of the 1980s. Head coach Buddy Ryan was in charge of a talented defense and an electrifying QB in Randall Cunningham, and the team would make it to the playoffs three straight years.

Philadelphia never quite got over the hump during this time. Rich Kotite took over after Ryan, followed by Ray Rhodes. While the team made the playoffs during both of those tenures, neither of the coaching choices proved to be a long-term fit.

Andy Reid took over in 1999 and stuck around until 2012. The team found success during his time and was a regular participant in the postseason, but winning the Super Bowl proved to be an elusive goal.

Chip Kelly got the first crack at replacing Reid, but he only managed to last two seasons. Doug Pederson had the job for five years, and the team found great success under his watch. He was the head coach for the Super Bowl-winning team in 2017, but was let go after a disappointing 2020 campaign, replaced by Nick Sirianni, who guided them back to a winning record and the playoffs in 2021. However, they lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card game.

After the victory in Super Bowl LII, the club fell in the Divisional Round the following year and were bounced in the Wild Card round in 2019. However, Sirianni has the team back in the Super Bowl for the 2022 season, looking to secure the franchise’s second ring.

Philadelphia Eagles FAQ

Bert Bell was the initial owner of the Eagles, and the franchise changed hands a few times from inception into the 1960s. In 1969, Leonard Tose and his partners acquired the team for $16 million. They would hold the team until 1985 when Norman Braman acquired the team for a price north of $65 million. Braman made himself quite a score less than a decade later when he sold the team to Jeffrey Lurie for $185 million in 1994.

Lurie maintains control of the team to this day, and it has proven to be quite a wise investment. Based on the latest NFL franchise valuations from Forbes, the Eagles are now worth a whopping $3.05 billion. That places them at 10th on the list of 32 teams. The Dallas Cowboys hold down the top spot at $5.5 billion, while the Buffalo Bills are in 32nd with an estimated value of $1.9 billion.

The Eagles have reached the Super Bowl five times in franchise history, winning the Big Game just once. They have a chance to double that total in Super Bowl LVII. Here’s a look back at the results from all three previous contests.

  • Super Bowl XV – Oakland Raiders over Eagles, 27-10, Jan. 25, 1981
  • Super Bowl XXXIX – New England Patriots over Eagles, 24-21, Feb. 6, 2005
  • Super Bowl LII – Eagles over New England Patriots, 41-33, Feb. 4, 2018
  • Super Bowl LVII – Eagles vs. Kansas City Chiefs, TBD, Feb. 12, 2023

In the pre-merger days, the Eagles took down what was known as the NFL Championship on three occasions: 1948, 1949, and 1960.

The Eagles have retired a total of nine-player numbers thus far. Here’s a look at franchise greats on the list, listed in order by jersey number.

5 – QB Donovan McNabb
15 – HB Steve Van Buren
20 – S Brian Dawkins
40 – CB Tom Brookshier
44 – RB/WR/TE Pete Retzlaff
60 – LB/C Chuck Bednarik
70 – OT Al Wistert
92 – DE Reggie White
99 – DT Jerome Brown

Currently at the top of the 2022 salary chart for the Eagles is DT Javon Hargrave. He earns a base salary of $12.7 million and carries a total salary cap hit of $17.8 million with bonuses and incentives factored in. RT Lane Johnson is second with a total cap hit of $15.7 million.
