WV winners split $1 million ticket
Out of Morgantown, WV, Cottrell’s Country Store was having a regular morning and baking bread for pepperoni rolls and pizza to sell to customers for the day. However, all that changed when West Virginia Lottery Officials called to inform the store that a $1 million Powerball ticket was sold at that location.
Jackie Cottrell, the manager of her parent’s store, has bought $10 in Quick Pick tickets at least once or twice a week for a period of five years. As the phone call progressed, Cottrell realized that she and a friend, who is a customer of the store, bought the lucky ticket.
Now, the two friends split the winning ticket and were presented with a $500,000 check each on Tuesday at the West Virginia Lottery in Charleston. With the winnings, Cottrell hopes to keep managing the store and then retire in a few years.
To add a cherry on top, the Cottrell’s Country Store also earned a $10,000 bonus for selling the lucky winner, which Cottrell’s parents gladly accepted.
