MA winner claims $500k one day before expiration
Previously, we reported on a ticket that was so close to expiration. However, Leonard Thomas stepped forward just in the nick of time to collect his winnings. In fact, he waited 364 days to collect at the lottery headquarters along with his dog, Mariah.
Thomas of South Dennis, MA said he heard about the ticket expiring on the radio.
“I play at that store and have a plastic sleeve that I keep my tickets in. When I heard about the expiring ticket, I looked through the tickets in the sleeve and found a Powerball ticket from August 19, 2020. I had it scanned at a convenience store and the clerk indicated that I had to go to the Lottery to claim the prize.”

Here in Pennsylvania, if you buy Powerball through PA online lottery, you do not have to physically keep or manually check your tickets. Online winners are notified through email and most winnings are also automatically deposited into your player account. However, note that a prize of Thomas’ size would require you to head into lottery offices located throughout the state.
