Overall, this jackpot holds the title as the seventh-largest prize in US lottery history or the fifth largest for Powerball. If the winner chooses the cash option, the amount reduces to $496 million. Out of that amount, 24% or $119 million goes to federal tax withholding. This leaves behind approximately $377 million. Best of all, in California, the state does not tax lottery winnings.
