PA sports betting update

UPDATED: May 26

Along with the NFL schedule release, some PA online sportsbooks debuted odds for every game this upcoming season. Check out the Philadelphia Eagles individual game odds for 2023 as they look to make it back to the Super Bowl.

The Philadelphia 76ers once again failed to advance far in the NBA playoffs. This result has already impacted the team, with Doc Rivers getting fired and James Harden opting out of his contract. There are many qualified candidates available, but it’s possible former Villanova coach Jay Wright is the best for the position.

In April, the state’s sportsbooks came back down to Earth, only reaching about $572 million in handle. With March Madness wrapping up in the beginning of the month, betting action slowed down. PA sportsbooks should receive a slight boost in the May report thanks to the NBA playoffs and mild run by the Sixers.

PA Casino Updates

UPDATED: May 26

Pennsylvania residents have access to a wide range of great online casinos and promos that come along with them. FanDuel Casino just released a different kind of deal, where PA bettors can receive a year’s worth of free chicken dinners just for signing up and depositing $1 with the platform.

Several retail PA casinos are looking to implement cashless gaming options for customers at their properties. Parx Casino Shippensburg, Rivers Philadelphia and Valley Forge Casino are among the first to test new technology.

The Keystone State’s online casino apps topped $167 million in revenue in April, which is now the second-most profitable month they’ve ever had. Overall, the state surpassed the $1 billion mark in lifetime online table games revenue since legal gambling got underway.

Online Casino

There are now more than 16 different online casinos to choose from in the Commonwealth, with game options ever growing. In addition to traditional casino slots, PA online casinos also offer a wealth of table games, including the option to play with a real-life dealer (via livestream).

Online Lottery

The PA online lottery is one of the most successful of its kind. While all PA lottery products remain available via lottery retailers across the state, you can play dozens of online instant win games and also purchase tickets for draw games like Mega Millions and Powerball right from your phone or computer.

Online Sports Betting

The PA online sports betting scene is alive and well with more than a dozen sportsbooks competing for your business. Betting on phones is far more popular than retail wagering and understandably so. With several apps to choose from, be sure to take advantage of the best promo offers which we provide here.

Mini Casino

This new category of casino called mini-casinos or satellite casinos can host up to 750 slots and up to 30 table games. The first to open its doors was Live! Casino Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania will eventually be home to five such properties which, as it turns out, are “mini” in name only.

Online Poker

The days of the PokerStars monopoly in Pennsylvania are history. PA players can now choose between a handful of legal online poker sites including BetMGM and Borgata (which share a network) and WSOP PA. They all offer frequent tournament series and a wide range of poker games and stakes.

Fantasy Sports

The gambling expansion law cemented the legality of daily fantasy sports in PA. Popular sites like FanDuel and DraftKings dominate the space, and Pennsylvania DFS fans have their choice between NFL, MLB, NBA, and PGA contests with enormous prize pools, many for rather small investments of $20 or less.

All regulated online gambling sites in PA follow strict guidelines set by the PGCB, and that includes minimum payouts on slots, table games, and video poker. All the PA online casinos we recommend at Playin Pennsylvania including BetMGM, Unibet, and Caesars Casino offer slot games with some of the highest return to player (RTP) available.

Resources

Along with increased gambling options in the Commonwealth come additional resources to help keep gambling safe. For anyone dealing with problem gambling in PA, assistance is available.

You can find details on PGCB responsible gaming help like self-exclusion on our responsible gambling page. Among the many resources available are:

For any issues with an individual online casino in PA, contact the site’s customer service number or chat feature.

The PA online lottery app offers many lotto games from the comfort of home. Online lottery players can choose from dozens of instant win games that resemble scratch-off tickets you’ll find at lottery retailers in PA.

You can also purchase draw lottery tickets like Mega Millions and Powerball via the mobile app. The iLottery app will notify you of any winners and even deposit winnings directly into your online account.

Keno was the first element of gaming expansion to go live in Pennsylvania. The numbers game, which is run by the Pennsylvania Lottery, is available at bars and taverns across the state. It is currently not available online.

Most of Pennsylvania’s once numerous off-track betting parlors are now permanently shuttered, with just the South Philadelphia Turf Club and The Downs at Lehigh Valley remaining.

Those facilities now also offer sports betting. Horse players can also access live racing and simulcast betting at any of six horse tracks in PA or place horse bets online.

Video gambling terminals (VGTs) bring elements of casino gaming to machines at Pennsylvania truck stops. These multi-game VGTs are now present at dozens of licensed truck stops across the state.

For those who want a sports betting-esque experience at any time, there are Xpress Sports from the PA Lottery. These games simulate virtual (and fictional) football drives, car races or even horse races, and allow customers to bet on the outcome. They are only available at in-person PA lottery retailers.
