UPDATE: A ticket sold in Arizona hit Wednesday’s jackpot, which increased from the initial estimate to $473 million. The lump sum cash value came to $283.2 million. The Grand Prize will reset to $20 million for Saturday’s drawing.
The Powerball jackpot gets another jolt after seeing no winner on Monday. Tonight’s April 27 jackpot prize amount is estimated at $454 million. The lump sum cash value of tonight’s prize is estimated at $272 million. The prize is estimated based on ticket sales and keeps growing until the cutoff time for the next drawing, which is 10 p.m. ET.
The top prize often ends up higher than advertised.
Several Powerball players hit big prizes in Monday’s drawing. Most notably, two players matched the first five balls, but not the Powerball. Those players in North Carolina and Texas each won $1 million.
Another five players matched four of the five white balls, plus the Powerball. Those lucky players came away with $100,000 each. Of course, there were many other prizes won on the lower tiers as usual.

A PA Lottery winner’s thrilling experience
Today, the PA Lottery held a live event issuing a commemorative check to a scratch-off player who won $1 million this month. Bob Keller of Greene County was the lucky recipient at the ceremony, who won the big prize on the $1,000,000 Merry and Bright ticket he bought at Giant Eagle on Sugar Run Road in Waynesburg.
Recounting the exciting experience, Keller said, “Technically I wasn’t going for that ticket. I went to the machine and it didn’t have the ticket I wanted so I pushed the Christmas one.”
Keller was in disbelief after seeing the results on the ticket. He continued: “The store clerk said, ‘Yeah that’s legit, you can scan it to check.’ I did and it read, ‘Congrats you won $1 million!’”
As for how the prize money will change his life, Keller wasn’t sure yet. He has no plans to quit his job as a Certified Nursing Assistant.
He added, “I like playing the lottery because there’s always that hope of winning.”
Perhaps we’ll see his name on a giant novelty check again some day.
