The Mega Millions jackpot jumped higher than the initial estimate for tonight’s drawing, ending up at a whopping $660 million estimated annuity for July 22. The lump sum cash value of the prize is $388 million before withholding.

Last Friday’s drawing saw the jackpot edge onto the list of the top ten highest Mega Millions prizes ever. In just one week, the Grand Prize has made it to the No. 3 spot. The only two jackpots larger than tonight’s were both more than $1 billion.

The last time a player in Pennsylvania took home the top prize was just last year in May. That prize, $516 million, now ranks as the 10th largest Mega Millions jackpot ever hit, and the biggest lottery prize ever won in PA.

Check tonight’s Mega Millions winning numbers below, after the drawing at 11:00 p.m. ET.

Mega Millions jackpot frenzy means more winners

When jackpots reach these heights and ticket sales explode, we see more winners across all Mega Millions prize levels. For example, in the previous drawing on Tuesday, four tickets hit the second-tier prize of $1 million.

To win that prize, a ticket has to match all five of the white balls drawn, coming one number away from winning it all. Tuesday’s $1 million winners were sold in Arizona, California, North Carolina, and New Hampshire.

More people buying tickets also means it’s more likely for more than one person to hit the jackpot. When this happens, the prize is split evenly between all the winning tickets. The fourth and fifth largest Mega Millions jackpots both had more than one winner.

In 2013, the prize that now ranks at No. 5 had two winners. Tickets sold in California and Georgia split the $648 million December prize. The fourth of $656 million hit in 2012 was split by three separate tickets, sold in Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland.

PA online lottery offers convenience for all types of players

If you’re an occasional lottery player, like the many people who wait for huge jackpots to emerge before buying a ticket, the PA iLottery site could be right for you. You can buy your ticket from home, right when you think of it, and you’re automatically notified if you win a prize. Better yet, most prizes are paid automatically to your account, making iLottery the most convenient option for occasional players.

When you sign up now, the PA Lottery will chip in a $20 free play bonus to your account. They’ll also match your first deposit up to $500.
