Each year, schools in the NCAA Big East Conference send their teams to Madison Square Garden in New York City to compete in the Big East Men’s Basketball Tournament.

You have the opportunity to participate in the excitement by placing bets on the 2023 Big East Tournament at Pennsylvania sportsbooks.

Winning the single-elimination tournament not only grants the champion bragging rights and the chance to hoist the Big East Men’s Basketball Tournament trophy, but also secures the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. This means a ticket to March Madness and the opportunity to compete for a national championship.

How the tournament plays out

Teams in the Big East are seeded from one to 11 based on their regular season conference records. The top five seeds receive byes in the first round, while the six through 11 seeds compete in first-round games to determine who will face the top three seeds in the second round.

The third round doubles as the semifinals, with the victorious teams advancing to the final game on Saturday evening.

In total, the tournament consists of 10 games played across four days to determine the Big East Conference champion. The following day, the NCAA reveals the 68 teams invited to participate in the NCAA tournament, including the Big East Conference champion who receives an automatic bid.

Since 2014, Fox Sports 1 (FS1) has been broadcasting the Big East Tournament.

How to bet on the Big East Tournament in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania sportsbooks accept traditional wagers on every game within the Big East Tournament.

  • A futures bet is a type of wager where the outcome is not determined until a later date. Traditionally, this type of bet would involve predicting the winner of the Big East title before the season begins. However, Pennsylvania sportsbooks are expected to allow futures bets on Big East teams throughout the regular season and tournament as long as the team is still in contention for the title.
  • Moneylines are bets where you select the team you believe will win a Big East Tournament game, with your payout determined by the odds established by sportsbooks.
  • Spreads – In this option, you choose the winning team of a Big East Tournament game based on a line set by oddsmakers that is added to the final score.
  • Totals – In this bet, you choose whether the final score of a Big East Tournament game will exceed or fall below a line established by oddsmakers.
  • Parlays involve combining two or more bets, offering higher payouts than individual bets. However, all bets within the parlay must win in order to receive a payout. Parlays can encompass bets on Big East Tournament games or any other available sports games.

Big East Tournament betting tips

  • It is uncommon for high seeds to win championships. However, in 2011, Connecticut broke the mold by winning the Big East Tournament after playing five games in five days, a feat never accomplished before. Typically, teams that play in the first round of the tournament do not advance to the championship game, let alone win it. Despite the odds, UConn not only won the conference title but also went on to win the national championship, making them a rare exception rather than the norm.
  • In the Big East, some teams have a history of success in the tournament while others do not. Georgetown holds the record for most Big East Tournament titles with eight, followed by Villanova with six, St. John’s and Seton Hall with three each, and Providence with two. The remaining schools in the conference have never won the tournament, so this is something to keep in mind when considering long shot bets for the Big East Tournament.
