Only two other Mega Millions prizes have ever reached this level, making tonight’s jackpot the third largest in Mega Millions history. The cash value of the prize is $470.1 million, before withholding.
Since the jackpot amount is determined by ticket sales, a prize this large begins to snowball with the added excitement. It only took two drawings for the current jackpot to jump from tenth to the No. 3 spot. The only two jackpots larger than tonight’s were over $1 billion each.
