Powerball drawings are subject to several security protocols

While the spotlight has been on the historical Mega Millions jackpot recently, Powerball has been quietly stacking up a worthwhile Top Prize of its own. For July 23, Powerball players are vying for a $119 million jackpot. The lump sum cash value of tonight’s prize is $69.2 million, before applicable withholding.

Powerball’s three weekly drawings have fueled the quick growth of the current jackpot, despite Mega Millions potentially diverting some ticket sales away from the game. The last Powerball jackpot was hit just over three weeks ago in Vermont. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights.

Check the Powerball winning numbers below after the drawing at 11 p.m. ET.

Multi-state games fund local benefits too

Just like your favorite PA Lottery Scratch-Offs and other games, Powerball ticket sales help fund services for seniors in the Keystone state. About 35% of each $2 ticket sold in PA goes to fund those benefits. However, more than half of the ticket price stays in the state.

A whole $1 of each ticket price goes to fund the jackpot and prizes won in PA. Lottery retailers get a piece of the pie as well. Their commissions total about 6%. Operating expenses make up another 9%, according to Powerball.com.

Many areas around the country take part and benefit from the big jackpot games. Powerball is sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
