About the PA $516 million Mega Millions jackpot winner

To begin with, it is not often that a Mega Millions jackpot crosses over the half-billion point. This historic jackpot created some new records:

  • Largest jackpot won during month of May
  • Ninth largest jackpot to hit
  • The third Mega Millions jackpot won in PA
  • Largest jackpot won in PA since starting to sell tickets in 2010.

In detail, the winner matched all five of the white balls 6 – 9 – 17 – 18 – 48 along with the gold Mega Ball of 8 to win it all. The jackpot is worth an estimated annuity of $516 million or $349.3 million cash. However, no matter the payout option that the winner chooses, applicable withholding needs to be deducted.

7-Eleven located on 2760 Trenton Road in Levittown sold the winner and earns a hefty $100,000 bonus. Pennsylvania Lottery Executive Director Drew Svitko stated:

“The Pennsylvania Lottery congratulates the big winner of this historic jackpot, and 7-Eleven for selling the big Mega Millions winning jackpot ticket. Thanks to our network of more than 9,600 retailers and players across Pennsylvania, the Lottery is continuing to fulfill its mission of responsibly generating funds for programs that benefit older Pennsylvanians.”

Buying lottery tickets online

The PA Lottery encourages the winner to keep the winning ticket safe and sign the back of the ticket. Then, contact the Lottery Headquarters in Middletown. However, there is an easier and more convenient way.

Try buying your lottery tickets through the PA online lottery. Most winners are automatically notified and paid out directly into your player account. However, if you are so lucky as to win a prize of this amount, you would still need to go into the regional lottery office to collect your winnings.

Other states that sell online lottery tickets include:

  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Kentucky
  • New Hampshire
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • New York

Remember to play responsibly.
