2022 NCAA lacrosse preview
Pennsylvania and New Jersey have a number of teams ranked in the Top 20 or under cosideration. Let’s take a look at each of them.
Rutgers men’s lacrosse preview
Odds to win National Championship: +2000
2021 Record: 9-4 (8-2 Big Ten)/Final Ranking (2021): No. 6
USA Lacrosse Magazine says:
“Rutgers is losing a lot of production from last year’s team. Charalambides, Kirst, Mullins — those were the top-three rotation players for the Scarlet Knights, and all have moved on. But it’s not as dire as it looks. Rutgers’ incoming transfers generated 35.5 worth of EGA (expected goals) last season, which is the fifth-most of any division men’s lacrosse team that has published their 2022 roster. Big holes for sure, but they’ve brought in some players who can fill them.”
University of Penn men’s lacrosse preview
Odds to win National Championship: +2200
2021 Record:1-0 (0-0 Ivy League)/Final Ranking Unranked
USA Lacrosse Magazine says:
“They won’t duck anybody. They will beat some people this year, no doubt about it. When you think of Sam Handley, the image is a big goal-scoring machine. But don’t sleep on his ability to generate offense for others.”
Lehigh men’s lacrosse preview
Odds to win National Championship: +2500
2021 Record: 10-2 (8-0 Patriot League)
USA Lacrosse Magazine says:
“I think people are afraid to play them this year because they don’t think they’re going to win any faceoffs against them.”
Drexel men’s lacrosse preview
Odds to win National Championship: +3500
2021 Record: 10-3 (6-2 CAA)
USA Lacrosse Magazine says:
“The Dragons likely won’t sneak up on anyone this season. Still, one of the team’s talking points this fall was to start faster. After surrendering 13 or more goals in three of its first five games, Drexel allowed 11 or fewer goals in each of the final eight.”
