Television for PA sports betting

“You give us 22 minutes, we’ll give you the world,” has long been the promise of KYW news radio in Philadelphia.

A new show on Fox 29 is going to give you the world of sports betting in 15 minutes.

Props and Locks will debut on Thursday at 7:15 p.m.  The weekly sports gambling show will be hosted by former Eagles linebacker Garry Cobb, Fox 29 sports anchor Scott Grayson, and Fox Bet gambling expert Todd Fuhrman.

Sports betting scoop in 15 minutes

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Rob Tornoe reported that the show would air for 12 straight weeks, through the end of the NFL season.  In Tornoe’s story, Fox 29 senior executive producer Tom Louden said the 15-minute show would force the hosts to keep their opinions tight and informative.

“We may hit five or six headlines or topics for everybody to talk about on our panel,” Louden said. “Two or three of them will be on the game that night; then we’ll obviously hit something Eagles and something league related.”

Props and Locks adds to Thursday slate

Props and Locks debuts this week before the Philadelphia Eagles visit the Green Bay Packers for the Thursday Night Football matchup. Here is how the Thursday night schedule on Fox 29 will look throughout the rest of football season:

  • 7 p.m.: Fox 29 Game Night Live
  • 7:15 p.m.: Props and Locks
  • 7:30 p.m.: Thursday Night Football national pregame show
  • 8:00 p.m.: Thursday Night Football

Hosts offer football insight

Cobb played linebacker for the Eagles from 1985-87. He was a member of Buddy Ryan’s vaunted defense. “G. Cobb” as he is known, is an Eagles analyst on Fox 29.

However, he said he doesn’t bet money on football and will focus on talking about the game itself.

Gambling advice will come from Fuhrman. He is the co-founder and host of the sports betting podcast Bet The Board and can be heard on a variety Fox Sports Radio programs across the country.

Fox Bet makes PA entrance

Fox Bet launched in Pennsylvania in early September. It is the fifth PA online sportsbook. It is a partnership of media behemoth Fox and gambling operator PokerStars.  The site operates through the Mount Airy Casino license.

Fox Bet is the only online sportsbook in PA to leverage the power of its personalities. Fox Sports 1 and Fox Sports personality Colin Cowherd and his Blazin’ 5 gives bettors the chance to double their money when he has a winning streak in the NFL. He also introduced Marquee 3 Super Boost college football picks.

On Aug. 26, Fox Sports Radio, The Gambler, debuted in Philadelphia. It broadcasts on 102.5 FM and 1480 AM.

Sports betting is hot in PA

There is clearly an appetite for sports betting in Pennsylvania. So creating more content around it is only natural on the regional level.

PA sports betting handle reached six figures for the first time. In August, sportsbooks accepted $109 million in wagers. Online wagers accounted for 76% of total handle.

According to numbers released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), FanDuel Sportsbook in PA accounted for roughly $35.3 million of the $83.2 million in online bets last month. SugarHouse Sportsbook was a distant second with $25 million in handle.

Fox Bet was not included in the August numbers since they were too new to the market.
