It pays to play.
The Pennsylvania Lottery released the August numbers for scratch-offs and, according to their records, the state had more than 8,400 winners of at least $1,000 for a grand total of more than $168 million in prizes.
“Pennsylvania Lottery Scratch-Offs winners claimed $168,198,877 in prizes during August, including two $1 million top prizes won in Venango and York counties,” the lottery’s press release noted.
Details of the two $1 million prizes
The lottery’s official winners list revealed that there was a pair of $1 million prizes.
A winner named “Oreita T” took home one of those prizes via a Big Money Millionaire ticket she bought at Spanky’s Tobacco World in Franklin.
According to the lottery’s website, Big Money Millionaire is a $20 instant win game in which you have 20 chances to match winning numbers and three chances to get a bonus added to your win.
The second $1 million winner was a woman whose name is “Deana B“. She bought her Million Dollar Winner scratcher at Rutter’s in East York, the Lottery noted.
Like Big Money Millionaire, the Lottery says Million Dollar Winner is a $20 game provides 20 chances to win and three multipliers.
17 winners of more than $100K
The rest of August’s big winners included a quartet of $300,000 winners, a trio of $250,000 winners, and 10 winners of $100,000.
As far as lucky games go, the 19 people who won at least $100,000 snagged their win twice with Million Dollar Winner, twice with $3,000,000 Pennsylvania Club, and twice with $300,000 Nest Egg.
The rest of the winner’s list revealed that more than 8,000 people won at least $1,000 from their scratch-off games.
The Lottery noted that all winners have one year from the game’s end-sale date.
“Before playing any game, players should read and understand the rules, prizes remaining and specific chances of winning found at palottery.com,” the Lottery advises. “Check tickets promptly and immediately claim winnings.”
iLottery contributes to growth?
Whereas August had more than 8,000 winners, July had less than 6,000. Despite the fewer winners of $1,000 prizes, the month did have one key distinction — two people won $3 million prizes and three people won $1 million prizes.
Since the iLottery launched in June, $1,000+ winners have increased every month. In June, there were more than 3,700 winners. In July, there were more than 5,000. And of course, in August that number eclipsed 8,000.
The iLottery’s results don’t indicate which games were played online and which ones weren’t, but a quick cross-reference of the iLottery’s games revealed no matches.
So, while there don’t seem to be any online scratch-offs included in the Lottery’s winners’ list, the emergence of the new online option seems to coincide with a considerable increase in winners since June.
Those who are interested in playing Pennsylvania’s iLottery must be physically present in the state and sign up for an online account through the iLottery’s website.
