Chargers biggest favorites of the week

For Week 4, the Los Angeles Chargers are the heavy favorites not because they are so strong, but because they are playing the winless, and historically bad, Miami Dolphins.

Even though the Chargers will be the away team in the match-up, SugarHouse opened them up as 17-point favorites, while FanDuel opened the team at -15.5.

Other than the Chargers, no other team started betting action as double-digit favorites. The New England Patriots were heavily favored in their first three bouts, but with a more formidable opponent in, believe it or not, Buffalo, the Pats opened as a touchdown road favorite.

Lots of close football games on Week 4 agenda

Both FanDuel and SugarHouse had four games open with one team being favored by a field goal or less over their opponent.

One of those games is the Thursday Night Football battle between the struggling Eagles and the rebuilding Green Bay Packers, playing at home. To FanDuel, these teams are pretty evenly matched, so the lookahead lines favored Green Bay by just three points. SugarHouse, which put up lines after the Eagles’ loss to the Lions, opened with Eagles as 3.5 point dogs. Once new lines went up later on Sunday, FanDuel adjusted Green Bay to a 4.5 favorite.

Other close games to keep an eye on as the week progresses are:

  • WAS vs. NYG
  • MIN vs. CHI
  • DAL vs. NO

In the case of the New York Giants, the health of running back Saquon Barkley could impact the lines. Barkley apparently sustained a high ankle sprain in the last-minute win over the Tamba Bay Buccaneers in Week 3. His absence could easily impact the line, which currently favors the Giants by 2.5 points.

Sunday Night Football with two popular teams in the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints should be another close one with tremendous interest from the betting public.
