The PokerStars PA Championship of Online Poker (PACOOP) is hardly underway, but the site is already upping the ante, at least when it comes to guaranteed prize pools. In fact, they did it twice.
Originally the site promised $1 million in guarantees across the 50 PACOOP events. On Monday, PokerStars added $125,000 in guarantees, pushing that number to $1.125,000. The biggest boost in the prize pools was for the Main Event. The MTT had a $100,000 guarantee, but that number is now up to $125,000.
On Wednesday, PokerStars decided to reraise. The site added an additional $100,000 in guarantees, bringing the total to $1,225,000. The latest round of added money boosts the prize pool of 20 of the remaining 37 events. The Main Event prize pool still stands at $125,000.
“Our average guaranteed clearance and overall performance of this first-of-its-kind poker tournament for Pennsylvania players has exceeded our initial expectations,” said FOX Bet President Matt Primeaux.
All told, 19 of the remaining 41 events now boast bigger guarantees. The PACOOP action started this weekend and continues through Monday, Dec. 16. There are at least two tournaments a day to choose from. Buy-ins range from $50 to $500. Most tournaments are variations on No-Limit Hold’em, but Omaha and other games like Stud Hi/Lo and Eight-Game are available as well.

First weekend of PACOOP a big success
Given the amount of traffic on PokerStars PA, it isn’t surprising the PA online poker site is willing to promise bigger prize pools. The series got underway on Nov. 30 and the fields of the opening events smashed the guarantees.
The first event, a $100 No-Limit Hold’em event with three rebuys had a guarantee of $20,000. It more than doubled that with a prize pool in excess of $50,000. Event 3, which ran on Sunday had a similar result, with the $15,000 GTD tournament ending up with a nearly $35,000 prize pool.
The largest event of the opening weekend, the $200 buy-in Sunday Special, had a $50,000 guarantee. The final prize pool was $63,426 after 247 players entered and 94 re-entered. The top prize went to JustBlaze324, who pocketed nearly $12,000.
The mid-week PACOOP events continued to break the guarantees with one exception. Event 13 missed its guarantee, but only by $200.
