Changes to Powerball jackpot and roll amounts
The “new normal” has become a common term in conversation and headlines. However, changes have already come to the Powerball jackpot. On April 2, the Powerball Product Group said they would reset the jackpot amount from $40 million to $20 million.
Also, the roll increase is now based on sales and interest rates. Gregg Mineo, Powerball Product Group Chairman and Maine Lottery Director, said the changes are necessary to “ensure that ticket sales can support the Powerball jackpot and other lower-tier cash prizes.”
He added:
“More states and cities have asked their residents to stay at home, which has affected normal consumer behaviors and Powerball game sales. In response to the public health crisis, interest rates have declined. As a result, additional game sales are necessary to fund comparable jackpot amounts.”
Recent winners in PA
Winning numbers drawn for April 15 were 10 – 12 – 33 – 36 – 41. The Powerball was 2 and the power play multiplier was 3x.
One player matched all five white balls for $1 million. The person did not have the $1 power play which would have doubled their winnings. Six players matched four white balls and the powerball to win $50,000. However, none of them had the powerplay which would have increased their winnings to $150,000.
Six players in Pennsylvania matched four of five white balls and purchased the power play to win $300.
