On the heels of the success of the first-ever Pennsylvania Spring Championship of Online Poker (PASCOOP), PokerStars PA will be hosting another big event this Sunday, May 17.
The event is a $250,000 guaranteed tournament with an inspired name — Pennsyl-MANIA.
Pennsyl-MANIA to feature largest guarantee at PokerStars PA
The two-day event sports a $200 buy-in with up to five re-entries available during the five hours of late registration. Play begins Sunday night at 5 p.m. After the first 20 of the 20-minute levels play out, the surviving players will reconvene Monday, May 18 at 7 p.m. ET to complete the tournament.
Several satellites for Pennsyl-MANIA with buy-ins of $10, $20, and $30 are scheduled each day through Sunday.
The $250,000 guaranteed prize pool will be the largest of any tournament thus far in the short history of online poker in Pennsylvania.
Back in December, the $300 buy-in PACOOP Main Event had a $125,000 guarantee and ultimately had a $179,200 prize pool.
Then last month the “High” version of the PASCOOP Main Event with a $300 buy-in had a $200,000 guarantee. That one ended up featuring a $368,200 prize pool.
Cardex promotion returns, daily cash prizes up to $5,000
As an added incentive to Pennsylvania online poker players, PokerStars PA has also revived its Cardex promotion. The promo is ongoing now through May 24.
After opting into the promotion (via the “Challenges” window in the lobby), players receive either a red or black card of a particular rank, then must match that card with one of their hole cards while playing in a cash game featuring three or more players.
In other words, if the player’s card is a red jack, the player only needs to be dealt either a jack of hearts or jack of diamonds to make the match.
Upon making a match, the player receives another Cardex card to match. After matching five Cardex cards, the player receives a random cash prize worth up to $5,000.
Players can win one cash prize per day in the Cardex promotion each day through May 24.
PA online traffic remains high during retail casinos’ closure
Just over six months after launching in early November 2019, PokerStars PA continues to enjoy its status as the Keystone State’s only legal online poker site.
Traffic at PokerStars PA rose considerably following the closures of Pennsylvania retail casinos in mid-March. The closures were in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Online poker traffic has remained consistently higher than it had been previously.
According to the online traffic tracking site PokerScout, in mid-February PokerStars PA was seeing a seven-day average of 350 players with a 24-hour peak of just over 800 players. However as we approach mid-May those numbers have increased. Current numbers are a seven-day average of 850 players with a 24-hour peak of more than 1,700 players.
During the busiest days of PASCOOP, the lobby routinely showed 3,000-4,000 players logged on during the prime evening hours.
March 2020 was PokerStars PA’s biggest month revenue-wise with just over $3.13 million. However, that total was surely eclipsed in April. Those revenue totals due from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in a few days.
