A horrendous bullpen is the reason the Phillies are clinging to a playoff berth. It’s not only the worst in all of the league with a 7.17 ERA, it is historically awful.
According to Philly.com, since 1901, only the 1930 Phillies bullpen ERA (8.01) had worse numbers over a full season. In the expansion era since 1961, no team’s bullpen posted an ERA higher than 7.00.
