$120 million winning ticket claimed in WI

It has been approximately a decade since the Wisconsin Lottery debuted Mega Millions in January 2010. Yet there were no big Mega Millions jackpot winners until recently.

Adrian Tongson of Racine, WI, just came forth to claim the $120 million Mega Millions jackpot sold for the Sept. 15 drawing. A regular Mega Millions player, Tongson did not even check his ticket until weeks after the conclusion of the drawing. Thereupon, he quit his job, and now he has big plans for the winnings.

Every state has different tax allocation amounts. In Wisconsin, there is a tax rate of up to 7.65% on winning tickets. Tongson opted for the one-time cash option, which was approximately $95.4 million. However, after federal and state taxes, Tongson netted $65.2 million — all in all, a nice payday.

Buy your lottery tickets online instead

However, you don’t need to head into a physical lottery retailer like Tongson did. In the Keystone State, you can buy lottery tickets online through the PA online lottery.

Other states where you can buy lottery tickets online are:

  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Kentucky
  • New Hampshire
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • New York
  • Virginia
  • Michigan

Please make sure you are playing responsibly.
