Steelers Take a Bengals Beating on MNF

The Steelers’ dream season has turned into the Nightmare Before Christmas.

As two-touchdown favorites at Pennsylvania sports betting apps, the Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Cincinnati Bengals, 27-17. Pittsburgh, which started out 11-0, is now on a three-game losing streak.

The Bengals (3-10-1), with Ryan Finley filling in for injured quarterback Joe Burrow, jumped out to a 17-0 lead. Ben Roethlisberger, just hours after a report that he was planning to return next year, only threw for 19 yards and one interception in the first half.

A once-jolly Steelers Twitter turned sour on the team’s poor play.

Bengals biggest home dog to win on MNF

This was a shocker for the Steelers nation and sports bettors. The Steelers were getting a big majority of the public backing as a 14.5 to 15-point favorite. According to ESPN’s David Purdum, the Bengals are the largest home underdogs to win outright on Monday Night Football.

With the defeat, Pittsburgh has not covered the spread in four straight games.

Betting splits from FanDuel Sportsbook for Steelers vs. Bengals:

  • 74% of the money was on the Steelers (-14.5) to cover the spread
  • 91% of the money was on the Steelers (-1000) on the moneyline
  • 69% of the money was on the over (40.5)

At BetRivers as of Monday:

  • 88% of the money was on Steelers (-15) to cover the spread
  • 94% of the money was on the Steelers (-1000) on the moneyline
  • 54% of the money was on the over (40.5)

At William Hill, the Steelers received 88% of the money for spread bets (-14) and 90% of the moneyline dollars.

Before the game, Nick Bogdanovich, director of trading for William Hill, said:

“All the money and all the liability is on the Steelers. We’ll need the Bengals pretty big tonight. This may end up being our biggest decision this week or close to it; Kansas City and Cleveland were in the same ballpark.”

Steelers offense and winning hits the skids

It was the first time since 2017 the Bengals held an opponent scoreless. The Steelers only mustered 40 total first-half yards. They finished the game with 244 total yards of offense.

JuJu’s questionable dance moves

JuJu Smith-Schuster’s pregame dance on the Bengals logo wasn’t well received by the Bengals or social media.

Roethlisberger’s ripped

Big Ben might be rethinking a return in 2021 after that rough outing. Despite the loss, he did eclipse the 60,000 career passing yards mark.
