Though Pennsylvania online casino revenue is down from last month, players in the state are still churning massive numbers. Online casino operators in PA recorded $167.2 million in April revenue. The Keystone State fell short of breaking another US online casino record after last month’s $181.5 million revenue total.
This is the fifth straight month PA online casinos have recorded north of $160 million in revenue. Though it dipped more than $14 million from March, April’s revenue total is still second all-time within the state.
“While Pennsylvania online casinos didn’t break their all-time record again, they didn’t slow down in April,” said Playin Pennsylvania Managing Editor Chris Imperiale. “The state’s platforms collected more than $167.2 million in gross revenue, an increase of 21.2% year over year. Even though the total is about $14 million off their record pace from last month, April was the fifth straight month in which PA online casinos exceeded at least $160 million in revenue, continuing the trend of setting the pace for other US iGaming markets.”

PA online casinos posting strong numbers
PA’s online casinos have recorded solid numbers since October 2022:

Strong customer retention post Super Bowl and March Madness
Pennsylvania online casinos recorded the second-highest month of revenue of all time within the state. A few operators attribute strong revenue figures to better-than-expected customer retention following March Madness. In DraftKings Casino PA’s business update, the company pointed to customer retention and engagement contributing to strong revenue figures:
“Customer Retention and Engagement coming out of the NFL Season and Super Bowl and into NCAA basketball and NBA was higher than we expected. Our initiatives to retain players as the sport seasons transitioned and a more engaging NBA product experience led to overperformance relative to our expectations. We drove similar trends in our sports-first iGaming customers where we increased retention following the Super Bowl due to CRM and personalization optimizations that we have made over the past 12 months.”
FanDuel Casino PA recorded second-most revenue for first time
Valley Forge Casino’s partnership with FanDuel PA Casino and Stardust Casino overtook Rivers Casino Philadelphia for second place in revenue. Rivers Casino Philadelphia is partnered with BetRivers Casino PA, Borgata and Sugarhouse.
Since the PGCB does not break down the revenue based on specific operators, it’s tough to tell which casino is falling short under Rivers Casino. Back in August 2022, Valley Forge finished about $14.5 million behind. Then in March, Valley Forge closed the gap with its $37.2 million to Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s $38.5 million.

Harrah’s Philadelphia slots dip in April
Harrah’s Philadelphia’s partnership with its branded Caesars Casino PA saw a slight dip in slot revenue. Do not expect the Harrah’s Philadelphia figure to dip anymore, as the casino launched another partnership with Tropicana Casino PA late last month. With land-based casinos able to issue multiple licenses, the Caesars brand is taking advantage.
Caesars is also expected to launch a new standalone online casino app to appeal to the predominant casino player. The company wants to improve its slot business in the Keystone State.
