PA Bettors Cleaned Up in an Ugly Eagles Win Over the Cowboys

It wasn’t one of the one of the most memorable Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles games. But its misery fit the theme of 2020 and the NFC East.

In a slog of a Sunday Night Football game, the Cowboys, with third-string quarterback Ben DiNucci, led the Philadelphia Eagles 9-7 at halftime. The Birds were able to overcome four turnovers by Carson Wentz to win 23-9.

Bookmakers first put the Eagles as 7.5-favorites. However, by Friday, most PA online sportsbooks had the Birds as 10.5-point favorites. During the first half of this sloppy game, it looked doubtful that the Eagles would even muster 10 points total. But the Cowboys showed little fight, and the Eagles defense came up with a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

The Eagles’ performance might have been lackluster, but the reaction on Twitter was ready for prime time.

Eagles second-half surge saved bettors

Betting splits from DraftKings for Cowboys vs. Eagles:

  • 95% of the money was on the Eagles (-8) to cover the spread
  • 93% of the money was on the Eagles (-400) on the moneyline
  • 65% of the money was on the UNDER (43)

Betting splits at FanDuel as of Sunday:

  • 76% of the money was on the Eagles (-11.5) to cover the spread
  • 80% of the money was on the Eagles (-500) on the moneyline
  • 78% of the money was on the OVER (42.5)

At Bet Rivers Sportsbook, Eagles (-500) ML was the most wagered-on bet, with 85% of the ML handle, followed by Eagles -10.5 (78% of spread bets). Jalen Reagor’s first-quarter TD catch cashed winning bets on +1200 to score Philadelphia’s first TD, including over a dozen bets of $100 or more in Pennsylvania.

Wentz’s turnover woes

Eagles win ugly

Philadelphia Phillies Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt once said, “Philadelphia is the only city where you can experience the thrill of victory and the agony of reading about it the next day.”

DiNucci makes starting debut

2020 seventh-round pick Ben DiNucci made his first start with Dak Prescott out for the year and Andy Dalton still in concussion protocol. He finished with a better passer rating (64.6) than Wentz (61.2).
