The same mantra that breeds success in the NCAA Tournament could bring you some extra excitement during this year’s version of March Madness.
DraftKings is hosting a free-to-play $1 million March Madness Survivor Pool, sponsored by KFC. Here’s how it works:
- Pick one team each day to win
- If your pick wins, you advance.
- You can only pick each team once per entry.
- If your team loses or you have used up all the remaining teams, your entry is eliminated.
The last person remaining receives $1 million. If there are multiple survivors through the National Championship, the remaining contestants will split the million-dollar prize pool.
And to make things even better, the contest also has an upset bonus. For every upset in the first two rounds, one randomly selected contestant will receive $10,000.

Oddsmakers can give you some clues for underdogs
So where might the upsets come from? Sometimes the oddsmakers might have the best guess. A quick look at the DraftKings odds gives you a glimpse at some good candidates. Here are a couple of close spreads if you’re hoping to chase an underdog:
- No. 11 Syracuse (+3) vs. No. 6 San Diego State
- No. 10 Virginia Tech (+1) vs. No. 7 Florida
- No. 12 Georgetown (+4.5) vs. No. 5 Colorado
- No. 10 Maryland (+2.5) vs. No. 7 UCONN
Of course, upsets are never easy to predict. And some are even hard to quantify. For example, in the Midwest Region, No. 10 Rutgers is a 1.5-point favorite over No. 7 Clemson.
However you count them, upsets are bound to happen. Let’s just hope you pick the right ones.
DraftKings March Mania pool features a more familiar format
The Survivor Pool isn’t the only game from DraftKings though. The sportsbook and daily fantasy operator is also partnering with Yuengling for another free-to-play competition, a $50k March Mania Battle Contest.
This pool features more traditional bracket scoring. Contestants will pick the winners of all 63 games, with the goal of accumulating the most points. The first place prize is $5,000. The second and third place contestants will each earn $1,000. In total 7,755 places will be paid out, with a total prize pool of $50,000.
DraftKings $2 million March Mania Bracket Challenge
While not free to play, DraftKings is also hosting a $2 Million March Mania Bracket Challenge that PA players can participate in. This $100 buy-in will have a total prize pool of $2 million and the winner will get over $1 million and also earn a spot in the DraftKings Championship Series.
Perfect predictions will bring you $2 million at BetMGM
Over at BetMGM Sportsbook PA, a perfect bracket could earn you a $2 million payday. And although those odds are astronomical, the contest is free, and everyone can compete for $100,000, whether the bracket is perfect or not.
Every correct pick in each round counts as one point. The person with the most points at the end of the tournament lands the $100,000 guaranteed prize. If multiple entrants tie for the most accurate bracket, the money will be divided equally among all entrants.
