In a week of bad news about coronavirus closings, online casinos in Pennsylvania are still open for business.
Gov. Tom Wolf ordered a state shutdown of all nonessential businesses on Monday, meaning all racetracks and brick-and-mortar casinos, some of which had already shuttered, beginning with Valley Forge Casino. That property is in a virus outbreak hotspot.

For now, Pennsylvania’s 12 brick-and-mortar casinos closed for at least two weeks. Casinos also closed in neighboring New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Delaware.
But Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) spokesman Richard McGarvey followed the closing announcement for PA casinos by saying:
“To this point the PGCB is not aware of any disruption of online services.”
Pennsylvania has eight online casinos up and running, and many are currently offering specials and deposit bonuses.
There are nine PA sports betting, but with most sports shut down or at least curtailed, betting options are a bit scant for now.
More ripples affect construction, Kentucky Derby
In other coronavirus ripples, construction on two Penn National mini-casinos halted as the company’s stock took a major beating.
Horse racing in PA remains in the gates for now, as the Kentucky Derby is postponed until September, the month when the Pennsylvania Derby is usually run. No word yet on that race, which has a $1 million purse.
