Hollywood Casino Is Now An iPhone App, Albeit One With Only Five Games

Another day, another new online gambling app for Pennsylvania.

What makes this one different is that it is the first online casino app for iPhone in Pennsylvania.

It may not have a huge list of offerings, but Hollywood Casino PA is available in the iPhone store. It currently offers the IGT Game King video poker suite and the following four slot games:

  • Cleopatra
  • Wheel of Fortune: Hawaiian Getaway
  • DaVinci Diamonds
  • Cats

Apple guidelines could explain small game library

As we have reported time and again, the change in Apple app store guidelines has a big impact on casino apps. The new rule that all games must be coded in native iOS as opposed to HTML 5 means a ton of heavy lifting for online casino programmers.

While every online sportsbook has found a way to work on iPhones, the struggle for casino apps is a little tougher. Prior to the Hollywood app, the only online casino access on iOS was via PlaySugarHouse PA browser access in tandem with the GeoGuard app.

The Hollywood Casino app is the first of the sites to get an app in the store. It isn’t exactly easy to find either. Search doesn’t lead to the real-money app very easily, so we advise using the link on the Hollywood Casino PA site to get you to it in order to download.

The quiet launch might be because more than just four games are en route. However, the amount of time it takes to recode each individual slot title has us thinking you probably should not hold your breath.

Nonetheless, if you are a video poker fan, to get access to the Game King suite of nine video poker titles is certainly worth adding the app to your phone.

Hollywood Casino continues to win the game title game

SugarHouse has Hollywood smoked when it comes to online slot titles available on iPhone, as GeoGuard allows access to the site’s more than 40 games.

If you are keeping track of which of the three sites has the most options though, Hollywood began in the lead and is staying there for now. The browser version of Hollywood Casino offers 72 titles, including five versions of roulette, baccarat, and the progressive slot Divine Fortune.

On Android, the app gives users access to 71 of those titles. The only omission is one version of roulette.

If Hollywood can come close to replicating this library on iOS, it would be a huge boon for the site. For now though, if casino customers are looking for options besides video poker on iPhone, SugarHouse is a better option with its browser-based approach.
