The sports betting industry in Pennsylvania kicked off just in time for kickoff.
Five retail sportsbooks are operational, split up among the state’s metropolitan areas in Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh.
Of those five PA sports betting locations, four are powered by Kambi Group. The company provides lines for three sportsbooks in the Philly area and one in the Steel City.
As a result, ahead of the second-biggest weekend of the NFL season, bettors can take advantage of Kambi’s unique parlay offering: Teaser+. The promotion arrives just in time for the NFC and AFC championship games.
“Since week one of the season, Kambi has offered the leading NFL betting coverage, including our Teaser+ product and range of exciting pre-game and in-game wagering options,” Kambi Chief Commerical Officer Max Meltzer said in a press release.
“We’re taking things up a notch again this week for the Conference Championship games with an extended number of props and in-game wagering opportunities. And for those that will be parlaying the two games, Kambi’s Teaser+ is the only place to be.”
What is Teaser+?
Introduced in time for the opening week of the NFL season, Teaser+ was available exclusively in New Jersey.
For those unaware, a teaser is a type of parlay wager in which bettors place single bets on a combination of events. To win a payout, each leg of the parlay must hit. With teasers, each event’s point spread adjust to favor customers, resulting in lower payouts.
Traditionally, with teasers, the line adjustments are overarching across all legs of a parlay without taking into account which teams are included. Instead, Teaser+ includes alternative lines generated in-house by Kambi that reflect team selections and matchup factors.
Rates, then, become more precise for each wager. According to a Kambi release at the time of the Teaser+ introduction, “almost in every instance generates a more generous price when compared to the odds tables used by other operators and suppliers.”
This feature, as Kambi puts it, “effectively turns the teaser into an alternative line parlay at the correct odds, which results in greater returns for the player.”
How does Teaser+ work?
As an example, consider the NFC and AFC championship games.
The Teaser+ feature, available online in New Jersey and at any of the Kambi retail sportsbooks via tellers or self-service kiosks, applies strictly to wagers concerning total points and point spreads. A bettor can take the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots, both listed as 3-point underdogs. On the betting slip, a “Teaser+” button then appears, which offers 6, 6.5, or 7 points.
In choosing seven points, for example, the spread for each game becomes +10 for both games. Potential payouts are adjusted accordingly. As of Thursday, Kambi noted, such a wager paid out -129. Elsewhere, competing sportsbooks would pay between -140 and -150.
On the flip side, in taking the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs, with a seven-point adjustment to +4 for each, a win would return at +106 odds, compared with -120 or -130 at alternative sportsbooks.
The same match applies for total points. Both games check in with over/under totals at 56.5 points. A seven-point adjustment for the over and under would move the total to 63.5 and 49.5 points, respectively.
Popular NJ market comes to PA sports betting
As noted, Kambi rolled out Teaser+ in time for the first games of the NFL season. Since, according to the bookmaker, the feature continues to grow in popularity.
At the time of release, Kambi CEO Kristian Nylen noted:
“[Teaser+] has the potential to fundamentally change how both operators and bettors consider teaser bets. Our modern approach (is) a step away from the current one-size-fits-all system (and) deliver(s) a fairer and more advantageous price to the player.”
Of course, Kambi offers other markets for bettors, including in-game wagers. These bets allow customers to predict the next touchdown scored. Additionally, bettors can bet on how a drive will end, how many points a kicker will finish with, and the yardage of the longest made field goal.
