Washington Winner Just Wanted Change for a $20
A lottery winner in Tacoma last week hadn’t planned on buying a lottery ticket at all. He walked into Garry’s convenience store and asked if they could break a $20 bill for him. Like many stores, they require you to make a purchase in order to open the till, so the clerk offered the man a $1 Washington Lotto ticket. The customer obliged and went about his day.
After the drawing, the man returned to the store to check his ticket, doubtful he had won anything. As luck would have it, his ticket matched all six numbers drawn to win the $2.5 million jackpot. The winner took the prize as a lump sum and chose to remain anonymous.
The store received a bonus of $25,000 for selling the winning ticket, which the owner says he’ll share with employees and use for community giveaways.
