Reminder about scammers using Lottery name

Don’t fall victim to scam emails or texts that illegally use the Mega Millions or Powerball name and logo to entice you into sending your personal information in exchange for non-existent prize money. As Mega Millions reminds us, “No representative of Mega Millions would ever call, text or e-mail anyone about winning a prize.”

These emails use fake organization names to sound more official, such as “United States National Lottery,” “Mega Millions Mobile Lottery,” or “Mega Millions Corporation.” These entities do not exist. Scammers have used social media, telephone, text and email to try to trick unsuspecting consumers into paying a fee or “taxes” in order to retrieve a prize that does not exist.

Remember, smaller prizes are paid to you right at the retailer where you bought your ticket. Larger prizes, even for Mega Millions and Powerball, always come from your state’s Lottery offices. And you never have to pay anything to receive your winnings. Taxes are taken out before you receive your prize.

The only place to buy tickets and receive prizes online in PA

The official PA Online Lottery is the only place to legally and legitimately play the lottery online in PA. It is true that the PA iLottery pays most prize winnings to you online. However, larger prizes must still go through the claims process through the state Lottery. You never pay anything in order to receive your prize.

If you sign up now, you can claim $20 in Free Play on the site and a deposit match bonus of up to $500 when you deposit money to play online.

Be alert, and always play responsibly.
