For Tuesday, Aug. 11, the Mega Millions will draw for an estimated jackpot of $24 million. Of course, a cash option of $19.7 million is available to the potential winner.
Previously, the Mega Millions winning numbers for Friday, Aug. 7, were 4 – 44 – 53 – 64 – 70, with a Megaball of 3. The Megaplier was 3x. The Aug. 7 Mega Millions estimated jackpot was $22 million.
Mega Millions eliminates minimum jackpot increases
But wait a minute. The Aug. 7 estimated jackpot was $22 million, while tonight’s jackpot is an estimated $24 million. So what gives?
Back in April, the Mega Millions Consortium announced some changes to the Mega Millions jackpot. This was in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic slowing down sales of lottery games.
The following Mega Millions jackpot factors have changed:
- No fixed minimum jackpot increase amounts.
- Mega Millions roll amounts depend on lottery ticket sales and interest rates.
- Jackpots reset to $20 million rather than $40 million when they hit.
