MNF Betting Preview: Can The Eagles Bounce Back Against The Giants?

The Philadelphia Eagles’ season, marred by injury, an aging roster, and ineptitude at wide receiver and defensive back, hit a new low point last Sunday. The Eagles lost to Dolphins 37-31 after being outscored 24-3 to finish the game. The 2-9 Dolphins had nothing at stake. The Eagles needed to win to pull even with the Dallas Cowboys for the top spot in the NFC East.

Despite one of the worst losses in recent memory, the Eagles still remain in the hunt for a division crown. Their next opponent, the New York Giants, are playing for nothing except draft position.

Most online sports betting sites in Pennsylvania have the Eagles as 8.5-point favorites when they host the Giants for Monday Night Football.

New York Giants vs. Philadelphia Eagles preview

At 5-7, the Eagles are not out of playoff the hunt. They trail the Cowboys by one game. The Cowboys visit the Chicago Bears on Thursday night and the Eagles will host the Cowboys on Dec. 22.

After a brutal loss to the Dolphins, the Eagles face division foe Giants, who are coming off a 31-13 throttling by the Green Bay Packers. The Giants have lost eight games in a row, one shy of a franchise record.

The Birds will get their first look at Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones. He had one of his worst games of the season against the Packers tossing three interceptions and posting a quarterback rating of 49.4. Saquon Barkley is hampered by an ankle injury. However, last year Barkley had success against the Eagles rushing for over one hundred yards and scoring a touchdown the two times the teams played.

The Eagles are on a three-game losing skid. Their remaining schedule consists of all divisional opponents. It’s must-win time for the Birds. They are going to have cut down on the penalties. The Eagles were flagged ten times for 91 yards against the Dolphins. Their defense’s 97 penalties is third-most in the league.

The return of Jordan Howard, who has missed three games with a pinched nerve, would be a welcome sight. Miles Sanders and Jay Ajayi are capable running backs but the Eagles ran the ball only 19 times out of 67 offensive plays in Miami. Asking Carson Wentz to throw the ball forty-plus times a games with a limited arsenal of weapons has not equaled success thus far for the Eagles offense.

Eagles vs. Dolphins: A look back

The Eagles probably want to burn the tape on this one. Hard Rock Stadium sounded like Lincoln Financial Field but the Eagles squandered the quasi-home field advantage. Going into the game, the Birds were heavy favorites (-9.5 to 10) after losing two straight games.

Despite their anemic offensive numbers, the Dolphins scored three touchdowns in less than 13 minutes. It’s been four seasons since they scored over 35 points. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick connected with wide receiver DeVante Parker for two touchdowns. Fitzpatrick tore apart the Eagles secondary for 365 yards and three TDs.
