NFL Conference Championships Betting Guide: Titans Look To Crash Super Bowl Party

<>

Written By Katie Kohler on January 16, 2020Last Updated on March 27, 2020

There is always one party crasher. The NFL playoffs are no different.

The long shot Titans have pushed their way in thanks to bulldozer running back Derrick Henry.

The Titans (9-7) were the only underdog that covered the spread during the divisional round games. For over/under it was a 2-2 split.

On Sunday, four teams hope to punch their ticket to Super Bowl LIV in Miami. The schedule for the NFL Conference Championship games is as follows:

  • 3:05 p.m.: Tennessee Titans vs. Kansas City Chiefs
  • 6:40 p.m.: Green Bay Packers vs. San Francisco 49ers

As of Tuesday, the Chiefs and 49ers were both 7.5-point favorites.

Conference Championship games are rematches

“I thought you looked familiar!” These teams have met already during the regular season.

The Titans hosted the Chiefs in Week 10, and eked out a 35-32 win. It was Patrick Mahomes’ first game back from a dislocated kneecap, but the Chiefs quarterback showed no signs of rust, passing for 446 yards and three touchdowns.

A 23-yard touchdown pass by Ryan Tannehill to Adam Humphries with 23 seconds gave the Titans the lead. With Mahomes leading the high-powered Chiefs offense, no lead is ever safe until the clock strikes zero. He moved the Chiefs into position for a 52-yard field goal which was blocked by Joshua Kalu. Henry rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns.

The Packers vs. 49ers Week 12 game had a much different flavor. The 49ers throttled the Pack, 37-8.

A strip sack of Aaron Rodgers on the opening drive by linebacker Fred Rodgers set up a 49ers touchdown and set the tone. The 49ers defense pressured Rodgers into one of the worst games of his career (104 yards, 1 touchdown).

Running back Aaron Jones was also stymied for only 38 rushing yards. The 49ers D held the Packers to 198 yards of total offense and sacked Rogers five times.

Jimmy Garoppolo had a nearly flawless performance as he tossed 42– and 61-yard touchdown passes.

Packers vs. 49ers betting preview

Despite identical 14-3 records, the 49ers are a heavy favorite against the Packers. Other tidbits to know:

  • The total has gone under in 7 of Green Bay’s last 9 games
  • The 49ers are 10-6-1 ATS in the regular season and playoffs (4-4-1 at home)
  • The Packers are 11-6 ATS this season (5-3 on the road)
  • The total went over in 5 of the 49ers’ last 7 home games

Titans vs. Chiefs betting preview

The No. 6 seed Titans roll into Kansas City after eliminating the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots and the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens. If the Titans pull off the upset, they will be the first wild card team to advance to the Super Bowl since the Ravens in 2013. (They went on to defeat the 49ers that year.)

In the Divisional Round, the Chiefs fell behind the Texans 24-0 early in the second quarter. Fueled by five Mahomes touchdown passes, the Chiefs turned on the afterburners and buried the Texans 51-31.

Betting numbers to know:

  • The total has gone over in 9 of the Titans’ last 12 games
  • The Chiefs are 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven games
  • The Titans are 3-0 ATS in their last three games and 7-2 ATS in their last nine
  • The total has gone under in 5 of the Chiefs’ last 7 games.
