NFL Playoff Betting Preview at PA Sportsbooks

Welcome to Wild Card Weekend. In addition to six games on the slate, Pennsylvania online sportsbooks also have a wide variety of NFL futures markets for the postseason including:

  • Finalist for the Super Bowl
  • Winning division
  • Winning Conference

Wild Card weekend betting preview

Matt Cosgriff, Director of Trading, BetMGM Sportsbook commented:

“This year’s Wild Card round boasts an uncommon amount of large spreads, with all six games currently being over a field goal. Public money is on most of the favorites; BetMGM will need a few underdogs to win.”

Browns vs. Steelers

Read our full preview here. The Pittsburgh Steelers opened as four-point favorites but the spread moved to six since Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski (and some others) will miss the game due to positive COVID tests.

Colts vs. Bills

Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill,  gave his thoughts for the Wild Card games. For this AFC battle he said:

“There will probably be sharp action on the Colts. Indy’s a very solid team and now you’re getting a touchdown in a playoff game. But the masses will be all over the Bills. I think this line will end up going down to 6.5 though. I’d also say the Bills will be the third choice for teaser legs this week, with the Bucs and Saints being by far the biggest teaser combo.”

Rams vs. Seahawks

The smallest spread of any of the Wild Card weekend games with the Seahawks as 3-point favorites.

Tampa Bay vs. Washington

The Buccaneers are one of two road favorites this week, and Tampa Bay (-9) is also laying the second-most points of any team this weekend against Washington.

“This will very likely be our biggest decision this week,” Bogdanovich said. “We’ll be drowned on Tampa Bay money for sure. We opened 7.5 up to 8, it’s just going to keep going up. I think this could end up reaching double digits. Anytime you get a 7 or 8 or 9-point favorite or so in the playoffs, you know you’re getting all the action on that side regardless.”

Ravens vs. Titans

Last year, the Titans pulled off a shocking upset of Baltimore in the Divisional Round. This showdown has the highest points total (54.5) of the Wild Card weekend.

“I don’t care what number is hung, I wouldn’t even play a Tennessee under with your money,” Bogdanovich said. “Baltimore is going to pound the ball and Tennessee is going to try and establish [Derrick] Henry. Tennessee has just been playing in so many high-scoring games this year, the public is going to pound that game over. I’d imagine the professionals will end up on the under, so I’m interested to see what gives.”

Saints vs. Bears

In New Orleans, the Saints are 9.5-point chalk over the Bears, making them the biggest favorite as of now for this weekend’s slate.

“If Kamara isn’t back for this game, this line is going down,” Bogdanovich said. “But the Saints have just looked awfully impressive all year long. Look at [last game]: They turned Carolina over five times. That defense is really good. Not to mention their offense; their offense is trustworthy too. If the Saints played the Packers on a neutral field, I’d take the Saints.”

Buccaneers biggest liability

The Kansas City Chiefs, reigning Super Bowl champs, are getting the most action at William Hill. They lead for both tickets (12%) and dollars wagered (25%) for Super Bowl futures.

Biggest Super Bowl liabilities at BetMGM:

  • Buccaneers (+1100)
  • Steelers (+2500)
  • Seahawks (+1400)

At William Hill, the Bucs and the Bills winning out would be bad for the book. “Buccaneers winning the Super Bowl would 100% be the worst-case scenario for us,” said Bogdanovich.

“We’re in pretty good shape with most of the teams, but the Bucs are a big loser. Chiefs and Packers are good, I’d sign up for either one of those. We don’t do very well with the Bills, we have a lot of money on Buffalo.”
