After a 24-17 win on the road versus the Chargers, the Steelers had a bye week to heal some of their various injuries. Quarterback Mason Rudolph returns after suffering a scary concussion Week 5 against the Seahawks.

The Steelers enter their Monday Night Football matchup against the winless Miami Dolphins as double-digit favorites.

If the Dolphins win, it will not only represent the first victory in a so-far woeful season. It will also be the first time a team has beaten Mike Tomlin at home on a Monday night. Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is 0-6 lifetime against the Steelers, with three losses at Heinz Field by a combined 42 points.

It will also be the first win for Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick against the Steelers. He’s 0-6, with three of those losses came at Heinz Field by a combined 42 points.

Miami Dolphins vs. Pittsburgh Steelers preview

The Steelers return to Roethlisberger fill-in Rudolph after Devlin Hodges started against the Chargers.

During Week 7, Miami played their most competitive game against the Bills, despite losing 31-21. The Bills were 17-point favorites, marking the second week in a row the Dolphins have covered (big) spreads as underdogs.

It sets up a prime opportunity for a breakout game for the Steelers offense, especially wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. He’s coming off one catch for seven yards against the Chargers. Through six games, Smith-Schuster has the lowest yards per game (56.7) and catch rate of his career (65.8%).  Of course, this can be attributed to Roethlisberger’s absence. A matchup against the Dolphins 30th-ranked defense (417 YPG, 35.2 PPG) could be just what the wideout needs.

The Dolphins appear to be in rebuild mode. They already traded cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Steelers in mid-September. Wide receiver DeVante Parker and running back Kenyan Drake might also be dealt before the Oct. 29 trade deadline. The Dolphins offense is putting up a league-worst 10.5 points per game.

Steelers vs. Chargers: A look back

Despite coming off a win, the Steelers were in need of a bye. Hodges made his NFL debut against the Chargers and engineered two scoring drives spanning nine minutes and seven minutes. Tomlin took the stress off the rookie by making running backs James Conner and Benny Snell Jr. key points of the game plan. Conner finished with 119 total yards. Snell led all rushers with 75 yards.

Joe Haden (groin), T.J. Watt (oblique), Stephon Tuitt (pectoral) and Conner (quad) were injured during the Chargers game. Tuitt is reportedly done for the season, a crushing blow for the defense.
