It was a busy past week with the close of the NFL season. The numbers were huge for Super Bowl betting in Pennsylvania, but with operators on the losing end of wagering.
Meanwhile, a new online casino but with a familiar name launched just before the Big Game.
And now you can buy Powerball and Mega Millions online.
Super Bowl meant significant losses, but lots of action
Official numbers from the state put losses for sportsbooks at $3.3 million on Super Bowl LIV.
Gamblers put down $30.7 million but operators paid out $34 million.
For this year’s Big Game, there were eight online sportsbooks and 12 retail sportsbooks in PA. The previous year featured just six retail books and none online.
A staggering 78% of wagers on the final game this year came online. Officials said nearly 200,000 unique users logged in on PA online betting apps on gameday. That’s twice the online traffic compared to other NFL Sundays.
BetRivers Online Casino went live just before the Super Bowl
Just before the big day, BetRivers Online Casino joined the existing Rivers Casino Pittsburgh online sportsbook, which also operates under the BetRivers name.
With BetAmerica’s online casino product also launching the same day, PA is up to eight online sportsbooks and eight online casinos.
The new online casino operates under Rivers Casino Philadelphia’s gaming license. Also under that license is PlaySugarHouse online casino and sportsbook brands.
The gaming law in PA allows for multiple brands or “skins” under one license, but not multiple sportsbooks. BetRivers is thus a skin of PlaySugarHouse, with both apps offering similar products and experience.
All the Rivers online products run on a related platform provided by Rush Street Interactive (RSI).
PA Lottery now offers Powerball and Mega Millions online
Players in PA can now purchase Powerball and Mega Millions online through the PA iLottery. Those who purchase draw tickets online have the same choices as with a ticket bought at a Lottery retailer.
That means they can choose their numbers or select the “quick pick” option and receive randomly selected numbers via PA Lottery.
Players can purchase multiple tickets and buy tickets for up to 13 weeks in advance. You can sign up for an iLottery account through our links here and receive $5 free play, and also check back on Wednesday and Saturday evenings as we post the winning Powerball numbers.
