The Barstool Sports bar in Philadelphia will be open for March Madness. Dave Portnoy is in Philadelphia and ready to keep the good vibes flowing with the grand opening of Barstool Philadelphia.
Portnoy posted a video on Twitter on Wednesday night in front of a hotel window:
“March Madness starts tomorrow. I’m in Philadelpha, look at that view. We have our Philly bar opening Friday. Stay positive. Positive vibes only,” he said showing off a hoodie as part of a promo.
On March 17, Portnoy shared pictures of the inside of Barstool Philadelphia.

Barstool Sports Bar Philadelphia now open
Barstool Sports Bar in Philadelphia is now open. It’s at 1213 Sansom Street, the former spot of the Brickwall Tavern.
Their hours are:
- Monday – Friday: 5 p.m. – 2 a.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: 11 a.m. – 2 a.m.
- Happy Hour is on 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m Mon. – Fri.

Portnoy hinted at Barstool Philly opening date
On a recent episode of The Dave Portnoy Show with Eddie & Co, when asked about the status of the Philadelphia location, Portnoy said:
“It’s not going to be open for a little bit but they were able to do a private event for the Super Bowl. It won’t be open until probably around March Madness I don’t think (for the public).”
Chicago Eddie asked if he would be there for the grand opening for the Barstool Bar in Philadelphia.
“Yeah, yeah. I don’t want to even say. I’ll wait until we get the exact dates,” said Portnoy.
Where is Barstool Sports bar in Philadelphia?
Play Pennsylvania exclusively reported the location of the Barstool Sports bar in Philadelphia in November 2021.
In early January 2022, contractors were hard at work at Barstool Philadelphia and later in the month, a green vestibule with a “Barstool” sign appeared outside. During a recent visit to Sansom Street, which has a number of bars and restaurants, I asked a contractor outside of Barstool Philadelphia when they were planning on opening.
He said, “Listen to Dave’s show. He’s going to tell you when.”
Barstool Philadelphia will not have sports betting kiosks, which really won’t matter since you can bet on your phone from any sports betting app including Barstool Sportsbook from anywhere in PA. The location in Chicago, Barstool River North, opened in mid-January.
Barstool Sports Bars planned for Nashville and Arizona
Barstool River North in Chicago opened in mid-January. There are plans for more Barstool-branded bars.
CEO of Barstool Sports Erika Nardini said on her podcast:
“We are also going to be opening (Barstool Sports Bars) in Arizona and Nashville. I’m headed to Nashville this week and am going to go see our bar…”
Barstool Sports Bars part of Penn National’s plan
Barstool’s parent company Penn National Gaming has high hopes for the Barstool Sports-branded sports bars. When Penn National Gaming CEO Jay Snowden talked about the bars in Nov. 2021 he said they would “represent an extension of our omni-channel strategy to more targeted, flexible, and highly valued locations.”
Unlike other sports betting brands that pour money into traditional advertising, Barstool relies on organic marketing.
Snowden commented during Penn National’s Q4 earnings report:
“We’ve all seen the incredible level of marketing spend in this space which we all know is not sustainable in a competitive environment. We have not and will not jump into that fray. We are also fortunate to have two dynamic and growing customer acquisition funnels in Barstool Sports and theScore, together with retail casinos and sportsbooks that provide us with highly effective organic marketing opportunities without the need to incur massive losses to compete.”
