Flyers riding high on NHL playoff and Stanley Cup odds

Will it be bye-bye NHL bubble or hello, Eastern Conference finals for the Philadelphia Flyers?

Despite trailing the New York Islanders 3-1, the Flyers forced a Game 7 thanks an overtime and double-overtime win.

The Flyers have leaned heavily on their 22-year-old goalie Carter Hart. He made made 49 saves in Game 6 and will have to turn another stellar performance tonight if the Flyers are going to advance. There are also questions regarding the Flyers lineup. Sean Couturier missed Game 6 and his status remains uncertain.

Upon the NHL’s restart, bettors liked the Flyers’ chances of winning the Eastern Conference and making a Stanley Cup appearance. After their romp through the round robin, the Flyers were the favorite to win the Eastern Conference at Pennsylvania online sportsbooks. To start Round 2 of the playoffs the Flyers had the second-best odds (+250), to win the Eastern Conference. The Boston Bruins were the current favorite to win (+130).

Flyers’ Stanley Cup odds as of Sept. 5 are +750 and +450 to win the Eastern Conference.

Flyers a favorite with bettors. But Islanders see odds improve

With eight teams left, the Flyers and Avalanche led the way in most outright championship bets at BetRivers. Now, the Flyers, Avs and their backers are on the brink of elimination. (The Dallas Stars lead the series vs. the Avs 3-1, too).

Over the weekend at BetRivers online sportsbook, the Flyers were the most popular NHL side of the weekend, getting over 24% of all NHL bets. No team has improved its championship odds more than the Islanders over the past seven days, going from +750 to +500 to win the Stanley Cup, the third shortest current odds behind the Golden Knights (+175) and the Lightning (+240).

For the Flyers’ 2020 postseason, Play Pennsylvania will regularly post and update their odds at PA sports betting apps and update how they fared each game. For more on hockey wagering, see our NHL betting guide.

New York Islanders vs. Philadelphia Flyers playoff betting preview

The top-seeded Flyers disposed of the pesky Montreal Canadiens in six games in the opening round of the NHL playoffs. The Flyers only mustered 11 goals over the course of six games and rallied behind stellar defense and the play of goaltender Carter Hart. Since they have returned to play, the Flyers are 7-2.

The No. 6 seed New York Islanders beat the No. 3 seed Washington Capitals in five games. They also benefitted from solid goaltending as Semyon Varlamov only allowed eight goals during the series. The Flyers’ offense, especially their top-regular season snipers, struggled to score in the opening series. The Islanders had no such problems, scoring 17 in their opening series.

Islanders vs. Flyers betting stats and trends

The Islanders are 3-0 against the Flyers this season. But keep in mind, before their playoff matchup, the Canadiens beat the Flyers in three of their five meetings.
