Phillies odds unchanged despite winning steak

On Aug. 22, the Philadelphia Phillies were 9-14 and five games out of first place in the NL East. Their shortened season appeared to be quickly falling apart. Their World Series odds at most PA online sportsbooks were about +3800, and their National League Pennant odds were +1400.

The Phillies bullpen was largely the culprit for their subpar record. On Aug. 27, the bullpen had a league-worst 8.77 ERA.

Things have changed for the Phillies, who have won eight of their last nine games. However, their odds have not improved yet.

September National League favorites

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the best record in baseball and are subsequently World Series (+360) and National League (+150) favorites. The Phillies have the sixth-best odds to win the National League pennant.

In terms of winning the NL East crown, the Atlanta Braves (-410) are favored over the Phillies (+500). The Braves are 22-14, and the Phils are 17-15. The Phillies had nine games postponed in late July and early August as a result of an opening series coronavirus outbreak within the Marlins organization.

MLB betting in PA

At BetRivers online sportsbook over the weekend of Aug. 29-30, MLB got the most bets of any sport and the second-largest total betting handle.

The NL East division showdown between the Phillies and the Atlanta Braves proved to be the most popular with MLB bettors. Nine percent of all weekend baseball wagers were placed on the series. The Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles series was also popular, garnering 8% of all MLB wagers.

If they can keep rolling as they have been, now may be the time to get the most bang for the buck when it comes to betting the Phillies.
