The Powerball jackpot continues its upward trajectory, coming in at $48 million for the Saturday, Jan. 15 drawing. If taken as a lump sum, the cash value of the Grand Prize is $33.3 million before withholding.
The previous drawing produced a few big winners. One player from IN matched the first five balls with the Power Play option on their ticket to win $2 million. Power Play costs $1 extra and multiplies non-jackpot prizes based on the multiplier drawn. Three other players in FL, KS and NY hit the first five numbers to win $1 million each.

With all the big winners in the news lately, we’d like to remind lottery players what to do should you find yourself with a winning ticket in hand. While the procedures vary by state, the PA Lottery first suggests that you check every ticket, every time. While our eyes are usually on the top prize, there are often lower-tier prizes that you could miss out on. Take your ticket to any lottery retailer and have them use their ticket checker. You can also use PA Lottery’s official mobile app.
If you have a winning ticket, you should immediately sign the back and fill out your name and address information. Prizes of up to $2,500 can be claimed at any lottery retailer. If the prize is $600 or more, you must fill out a claim form. Claim forms are available at lottery retailers, lottery offices or online.
The lottery has to pay out prizes over $2,500. After making a copy of your ticket, front and back, mail your signed ticket and completed claim form to the address on the form. Certain prizes like Powerball or Mega Millions top prizes and other annuitized prizes can only be claimed in-person at a PA Lottery office.
