PA sportsbooks offer Big Game specials

Thanks to mobile betting, Super Bowl LIV marks the first time Pennsylvanians can wager on the big game from anywhere in the state. Yes, you can bet on your phone while waiting in line at the grocery store to purchase game day snacks. Or in the kitchen with your non-chip dipping hand.

Eighty-seven percent of bets were placed via PA online betting apps in December which displays an overwhelming preference. But certain spectacles like the Super Bowl may call for a more communal event.

The matchup is set and early lines are out. The San Francisco 49ers vs. Kansas City Chiefs will play in Super Bowl 54 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m.

If you don’t have a game plan yet, there is still time. However, some options for reserved seating are already sold out. Here’s what’s happening at Pennsylvania’s twelve retail sportsbooks on Super Bowl Sunday.

FanDuel sportsbook at Valley Forge Casino Resort

1160 First Avenue
King of Prussia, PA 19406

In December, more than half of online bets came via FanDuel Sportsbook. While FanDuel is a giant in terms of mobile wagering, its retail operation is one of the smallest in the state at 1,800 sq. ft.

Seating for the Super Bowl is on a first come, first serve basis. A temporary bar will be set up inside so guests can have an eye on the action at all times. All guests who place any bet on the Super Bowl will be entered into a $500 drawing with one winner picked every quarter during the game.

“No reserved seating. First come, first serve” is what a customer service rep at The Meadows Sportsbook told Playin Pennsylvania when we called to ask about seating. “Through research we found that sportsbooks aren’t busy during the Super Bowl and it’s much busier during March Madness.”

The Meadows will also be taking online bets via their DraftKings Sportsbook mobile app, for those who find lines to be too long.

Seating at the following sportsbooks is on a first come, first serve basis:

Some tips for watching the game at a sportsbook

Crowds flock to the sportsbook on NFL Sundays. Just because “the Eagles aren’t in it,” don’t expect an empty nest. Plan ahead and reserve seat(s) if available.

Do your homework beforehand. Don’t expect the book to prove a quiet place to post up on Super Bowl Sunday so you can pore over betting markets.

“No thanks, I’ll stand and just spend what I would on the ticket on drinks.”  The average Super Bowl game is over four hours. By game day, seats are booked or sparse. No, you can’t sit on the floor since it represents a fire hazard.

Bring a charger. Most sportsbooks with recliners have USB ports. Don’t be the person who asks the server to charge your phone.

If you win, tip the ticket writer at the counter. Win or lose, tip your server/bartender.

Good luck, enjoy the game, and have a plan for getting home safe.
