A familiar face is returning to the NFC East. Carson Wentz was traded from the Indianapolis Colts to the Washington Commanders on March 9. About 13 months after the Philadelphia Eagles traded their once-franchise quarterback to the Colts, he was on the move again. What impact, if any, did it have for the Washington Commanders odds and the betting odds for the rest of NFC East?

Let’s take a look around PA sports betting apps for what has already been an eventful NFL offseason.

Carson Wentz traded to Washington

The Eagles benched a struggling Wentz during a Week 13 game in 2020 in favor of rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts. Wentz was shipped to the Colts in Feb. 2021 for a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 conditional second-round pick. The conditional pick turned into a first-rounder (No. 16) in the upcoming NFL Draft after Wentz played over 70% of the Colts’ snaps in 2021.

Reunited with former Eagles offensive coordinator and now Colts head coach Frank Reich, Wentz put up solid numbers (3,563 yards with 27 touchdowns and 7 interceptions). However, with a chance to make the playoffs, the Colts lost their last two games including a Week 18 defeat against the NFL-worst Jacksonville Jaguars. Wentz was sacked six times and turned the ball over twice and the Jags won 26-11.

ESPN first reported Wentz to Washington on Wednesday afternoon. Adam Schefter reported that Washington is paying the full $28 million due to Wentz this year, which includes a $5 million roster bonus due next week.

The Colts receive:

  • 2022 third-round pick
  • 2023 third-round pick that can become a second if Carson Wentz plays 70 percent of plays
  • 2022 second-round pick

Commanders get:

  • QB Carson Wentz
  • 2022 second-round pick

Washington Commanders odds after Wentz trade

Taylor Heinicke led Washington in 2021 with 3,419 passing yards and 20 TDs. According to various sources, Washington was “desperate” to improve their quarterback situation in the offseason. They actively pursued trading for Russell Wilson who landed with the Denver Broncos yesterday.

At BetMGM PA Sportbook, the Commanders odds did not move. They remained the same for the Super Bowl (+5000), NFC (+2200) and NFC East (+450).

There was futures odds movement for the Commanders at DraftKings PA Sportbook.

  • Super Bowl +5000 to +4000
  • NFC +2500 to +4000
  • NFC East +500 to +400
