Retired Air Force officer claims $4 million prize in MO

In Missouri, Denise Bazan of Norwood, claimed her April 16 winner of $4 million. As a recap, the winning numbers for that drawing were 17 – 27 – 28 – 50 – 55 with a gold Mega Ball of 25. Finally, the Megaplier drawn was 4X.

Bazan actually did not check her winner until a friend called a few days after the drawing. She stated:

“My friend said, ‘Well, I know you bought a Mega Millions ticket. Was it you?’ I said, ‘What are you talking about?’ and she said, ‘Someone in Mountain Grove won $4 million!’”

Bazan’s ticket matched all five white balls. Typically, the game’s second-place prize, known as a Match 5, yields $1 million. However, Bazan opted for the $1 Megaplier, boosting her prize to $4 million. Finally, Bazan used the Missouri Lottery app to check her winner.

Check tickets with PA online lottery

Here in Pennsylvania, you can also check your lottery tickets with the PA Lottery app. Moreover, if you buy your tickets through the PA online lottery, you receive automatic notifications of winners.

Best of all, most winnings are paid directly to your player account, meaning you do not need to claim your prize at a lottery retailer. However, note that for large prizes such as Bazan’s, you will need to head into a PA Lottery office to claim it.

Finally, there are other states that offer the sale of online lottery tickets:

  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Kentucky
  • New Hampshire
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • New York

No matter if you buy lottery tickets online or in a physical retailer, please play responsibly.

Eagles 2021 Draft Odds And Props

The 2021 NFL Draft is filled with more ways to bet than ever. Since online sportsbooks started offering betting markets on the draft, they have gotten more in-depth. Draft nerds now have the chance to make money instead of just making mocking drafts.

It’s also a pivotal draft for the Philadelphia EaglesComing off a 4-11-1 season, they fired the only coach to ever win a Super Bowl for the franchise, shipped the starting quarterback out of town, and brought in a rookie head coach. General manager Howie Roseman faces the ire of Twitterverse with every move.

With the 2021 NFL Draft coming up on Thursday night, we break down some prop bets, draft specials, and odds on who the Eagles will pick, plus how to bet on the NFL Draft in Pennsylvania.

No betting on the NFL Draft in Pennsylvania

Currently, betting on the NFL Draft is not permitted in Pennsylvania. However, NFL draft betting is available at online sportsbooks in New Jersey.

Will NFL Draft betting ever be offered in PA? Johnny Avello, head of sportsbook and gaming operations at DraftKings Sportsbook, says NFL draft betting markets have gained popularity and he expects more states to add it.

Eventually, states will get comfortable with it,” he said.

Why you can’t bet on the NFL Draft in PA

Act 42 of Pennsylvania’s state gambling expansion law defines sports wagering as:

“The business of accepting wagers on sporting events or on the individual performance statistics of athletes in a sporting event or combination of sporting events by any system or method of wagering, including over the Internet through websites and mobile applications. The term includes, but is not limited to, exchange wagering, parlays, over-under, moneyline, pools and straight bets.”

A spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said that the Gaming Act would need to be amended by the legislature for draft betting to happen.

2021 NFL Draft prop bets

The betting markets for the 2021 NFL draft almost resemble a regular season game and not an offseason event where the only contact is just-drafted players giving Roger Goodell rib-crushing hugs.

 Avello told PlayColorado:

“It’s an event that a lot of people like to watch. It’s more of a, I’d say, ‘sophisticated players’ type of betting event because they look for the edges they can get. But there are some opportunities for everyone to bet. It’s fun. The Draft is heavily watched. We have a lot up right now. It’s incredible. This is probably the most content we’ve ever had up on it.”

At BetMGM, the Top 10 most bet props are:

  • No. 3 Overall Pick
  • First running back drafted
  • First defensive player drafted
  • Which team will draft Ja’Marr Chase
  • Total offensive linemen drafted in Round 1
  • No. 2 Overall Pick
  • Wide receivers drafted in Round 1
  • Running backs drafted in Round 1
  • QBs drafted in Round 1
  • Which team will draft DeVonta Smith

Darren Darby, Sports Trader at BetMGM, commented:

“BetMGM has taken significant action on the NFL Draft. So far, action has been equivalent to a NBA game but expectations are that by Thursday there will be more handle than an average NFL game.”

Odds on whom the Eagles will pick first

Think you know who Howie and the Birds are going to pick? DraftKings has odds on which player will be selected with their first pick.

Player to be drafted first by the Eagles (odds)

  • Jaycee Horn: +300
  • DeVonta Smith: +300
  • Patrick Surtain: +300
  • Jaylen Waddle: +500
  • Micah Parsons: +700
  • Rashawn Slater: +800
  • Kyle Pitts: +1100
  • Penei Sewell: +1200
  • Full list of odds below and on app

Position of Eagles’ first pick (odds)

  • Wide receiver: +130
  • Cornerback: +175
  • Offensive lineman: +600
  • Defensive lineman: +1000
  • LB: +1100
  • QB: +1600
  • Tight End: +2500
  • Safety: +5000
  • RB: +6600
  • Kicker/punter/LS: +50000
  • Position of player: Offense (-139)/Defense (+112)

Will the Eagles draft a quarterback?

For the first three picks in the 2021 NFL draft, a quarterback is the favorite to be selected.

  • First overall pick: Trevor Lawrence (-10000)
  • Second pick: Zach Wilson (-10000)
  • Third pick: Mac Jones (-305), Trey Lance (+250)

The last time quarterbacks were the first three selected in the NFL draft was in 1999. However, last year marked the first time since 1999 that three quarterbacks got picked in the Top 5.

The Eagles reportedly already tried to trade up with the goal of selecting Zach Wilson. They have not “officially” named last year’s second round pick Jalen Hurts the starter. And, at the self-proclaimed “quarterback factory,” even if the Eagles don’t select a quarterback with their first pick, don’t be surprised if they grab a signal caller with one of their other early round picks.

Odds Eagles select quarterback first

  • Trey Lance: +2000
  • Justin Fields: +3300
  • Mac Jones: +5000

NFL Draft betting specials at BetMGM

Flashback: In the early 2000s, my cousin hosted a draft party when it was held on Saturdays and Sundays. Only serious draftniks invited, bring your own draft guides and favorite “game day” grub. It was the best family party.

BetMGM is bringing the betting fun for the 2021 NFL draft. They have over 35 prop bets for the draft in addition to similar markets found at other sports betting apps.

BetMGM Philadelphia Eagles draft specials

  • Giants, Eagles and Steelers draft an offensive player with their first pick (+250)
  • Eagles draft DeVonta Smith and Dolphins draft Ja’Marr Chase (+1600)
  • Titans and Eagles both draft a cornerback with their first pick (+700)
  • Eagles draft Jaylen Waddle and Giants draft DeVonta Smith (+2000)

Some other interesting BetMGM Draft Specials

  • The first four picks all to be quarterbacks (-110)
  • 5+ WRs and 5+ CBs drafted in Round 1 (+125)
  • Trey Lance and Mac Jones both to be drafted before Justin Fields (+200)
  • Kyle Trask to be drafted before Trey Lance (+700)
  • The first 5 picks all to be quarterbacks (+900)
  • Justin Fields not be drafted in the first round (+900)
  • Zach Wilson not drafted in Top 5 (+2500)
  • Trevor Lawrence not drafted in Top 2 (+3500)

QB drama at No. 3

The San Francisco 49ers hold the No. 3 pick and there has been some major line movement on the three quarterbacks projected to be selected. Check out this chart from William Hill.

Nick Bogdanovich, Director of Trading for William Hill, said of the No. 3 pick:

“It’s been the one prop that’s been the most popular so far for us, that’s for sure.

“The most tickets is on Fields, second-most on Jones then Lance. Most money is on Jones by a mile, twice as much as Lance.”

At William Hill, “Fields drafted No. 3” is the most popular bet by total number of tickets. “Jones selected No. 3” is the most popular bet by total handle.

NFL 2021/2022 Rookie of the year odds

  • Mac Jones: +500
  • Zach Wilson: +700

2021/22 Defensive Rookie of the Year favorites

  • Micah Parsons: +400

Borgata Online Casino Heading to PA

A new, but familiar name is joining the Pennsylvania iGaming scene. Borgata online casino is planning to test launch its online casino in Pennsylvania sometime next week. Sources and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board confirmed the pending arrival.

Borgata online casino coming to PA

Borgata online casino is in partnership with Rivers Casino Philadelphia. While land-based casinos in PA can have up to three online casino skins, they can only have one online sportsbook per license. With Rivers’ taken by the BetRivers app, a Borgata online sports betting app would have to launch under another operator. It is unclear as of now when or if that will happen.

BetMGM, a sister brand of Borgata, came to PA in Dec. 2020 and partnered with Hollywood Casino Morgantown.

Borgata online casino details

No details are currently available for what Borgata’s online casino in Pennsylvania will offer. However, New Jersey provides a good idea of welcome offers and rewards. Similar to other online casinos in PA with New Jersey counterparts, the library of games will be smaller to start.

Welcome offer: 100% deposit match up to $600 plus an extra $20

Available on: iOS and Android

Deposit methods: ACH/e-check, Play+, Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, online banking, PayNearMe, Skrill, cashier window, American Express, Discover.

Withdraw methods: Play+, PayPal, ACH/e-check, Check By Mail, Skrill, Online Banking

Borgata rewards program

Borgata online casino PA, like the site in NJ, will automatically enroll you in its MLife Rewards loyalty program on account verification.

Every dollar you wagered at Borgata will earn reward points that you can convert into cash, online play and comps for hotel rooms, restaurants, retail stores, priority lines and special promotions at land-based partner casinos across the country, including Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City.

Earn one reward point for every:

  • $5 wagered on slots.
  • $10 wagered on progressive jackpot slots.
  • $20 wagered on video poker.
  • $25 wagered on blackjack, roulette, baccarat and craps.

Every dollar you wager will also go toward tier credits. There are five levels in MLife Rewards’ VIP program.

  • Sapphire (0 to 19,999 credits)
  • Pearl (20,000 credits)
  • Gold (60,000 credits)
  • Platinum (160,000 credits)
  • Noir (by invitation only)

Tier credits will reset to zero every Jan. 1 and set your tier status beginning on Feb. 1.

Record-breaking month for PA online casinos

Online casinos in Pennsylvania experienced a record-breaking January posting more than $80.4 million in total iGaming revenue. It broke the previous high set in December by 11%.

The more staggering increase comes from year-over-year comparisons. Total iGaming revenue in PA skyrocketed 476% from Jan. 2020 to Jan. 2021.

Borgata’s big online growth

A land-based leader in Atlantic City, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa has shifted its quest for dominance to online. In NJ, Borgata and its internet partners reported a 168% year-over-year increase from NJ online casino revenue in 2020.

In addition, a $208.2 million online win accounted for 36% of Borgata’s total gaming revenue last year, according to data released by the Division of Gaming Enforcement.

Eagles Odds Bleak For 2021/22

Online sportsbooks recently released more futures betting markets for the 2021 NFL season. The Philadelphia Eagles started their offseason by ousting the only coach to ever win a Super Bowl for the franchise and trading disgruntled quarterback Carson Wentz.

Even though they won’t readily admit it, the Eagles appear to be in rebuilding mode. Early futures odds for the Eagles reflect low expectations.

Philadelphia Eagles 2021/22 futures betting

Right after Super Bowl LV, William Hill released the odds for Super Bowl 56 with the Kansas City Chiefs (+500) and the Green Bay Packers (+850) at the top of the board. The Eagles were +4000.

In mid-April, sports betting apps released more betting markets. Here’s a look at the Eagles’ odds as of April 16 at DraftKings:

  • Super Bowl: +7000
  • NFC Championship: +3300
  • NFC East: +500
  • Win totals: Over 6.5 (-134)/Under 6.5 (+110)
  • Will the Eagles make the playoffs: Yes (+275)/No (-360)

Will the Eagles be one of the worst teams in 2021?

The Eagles hired Nick Sirianni, a former Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator, as their new head coach. The Eagles reportedly tried to trade up to select BYU quarterback Zach Wilson in the NFL Draft. This was after Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said that the Birds should prioritize making Hurts successful in 2021. Hey, if an NFL front office isn’t a model of honesty, who can you trust nowadays?

A “rookie” quarterback (Hurts only started three games last year) and a rookie coach are usually a recipe for a losing season. But how much worse can it get for the Eagles after a 4-11-1 season?

Only four teams have worse Super Bowl odds than the Eagles. The Bengals (+8000),  Jets (+8000), Lions (+15000), and Texans (+15000).

PA sports betting apps also give the Eagles the longest odds (+500) to win the NFC East. The Dallas Cowboys (+110) are the favorite.

Teams with lowest win total over/under for 2021-2022 season

  • 4.5: Texans
  • 5: Lions
  • 6.5: Eagles, Jets, Bengals, Jaguars
  • 7: Falcons, Bears, Giants

How will the extra game impact betting markets?

The NFL will have a 17-game regular season in 2021. Obviously, that means another game to bet on and the increased handle and revenue that comes with it.

Johnny Avello, head of sportsbook and gaming operations at DraftKings, told Playin Pennsylvania:

“When you put up 9 or 9.5 that’s a really good season, but it now no longer is. That’s an average season. The bookmakers have to change the over/under wins totals and we’ve been doing the same structure for many years.

“Now the season goes a little longer. Does it change the futures? Maybe a little. One more game also means one extra game for a team to get to the playoffs, a player to get hurt…”

The NFL’s preseason will shrink from four games to three. According to industry experts at Fox Bet, it’s estimated that an NFL regular season game gets 20x-30x more money wagered on it than a preseason game.

Fox Bet content integration specialist Jacob Blangsted-Barnor told Fox Sports:

“We love it. You’ve got an extra week of games to bet. It’s great for us. You’re also gaining some really fun games. Seahawks vs. Steelers, Chiefs vs. Packers. Those will be big games for us.”

Blangsted-Barnor also weighed in at Fox Sports on the added game in terms of over/under win total:

“We look at the percentage chance that a team wins that extra game. Let’s say that the Chiefs have a 58% chance to beat the Packers. We would add .58 of a win to the Kansas City win total. [FOX Bet would round .58 down to .5 wins for betting purposes.] So if the Chiefs’ total is 12.5, we would bump them up to 13.”

2021 NFL Draft betting

Betting on the NFL Draft is not available in Pennsylvania. However, you can wager on the NFL Draft on mobile sports betting apps in New Jersey.

2021 NFL Draft markets at DraftKings include:

  • No. 1 overall pick (The favorite: Trevor Lawrence, -10000)
  • 2nd overall pick (The favorite: Zach Wilson, -5000)
  • 3rd overall pick (The favorite: Justin Fields -125. Last week, Mac Jones -305 was the favorite)
  • Exact playing position of team’s first drafted player (every NFL team available)
  • Team to draft Trey Lance (The favorite: Denver Broncos +300, San Francisco 49ers +300)
  • Team to draft Justin Fields (The favorite: San Francisco 49ers -121)
  • Draft position specials
  • 1st Round totals
  • Player Top 5 odds
  • Player Top 10 odds

Who will the Eagles draft in 2021?

The Eagles’ woeful record landed them the No. 6 pick in the draft. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman dealt the No. 6 pick to the Miami Dolphins. The Eagles received the No. 12 pick, No. 123 pick (fourth-round pick) and a 2022 first-round pick. Miami received the No. 6 pick and the No. 156 overall pick (fifth round).

Philadelphia Eagles 2021 NFL draft picks

Round 1: No. 12 overall (from 49ers, through Dolphins)
Round 2: No. 37
Round 3: No. 70, No. 84 (from Colts)
Round 4: No. 123 (from Dolphins)
Round 5: No. 150
Round 6: No. 189, No. 224, No. 225
Round 7: No. 234, No. 240 (from 49ers)

Who do online sportsbooks think the Eagles might select at No. 12?

Exact playing position odds of Philadelphia Eagles’ first drafted player:

  • Wide receiver +130
  • Cornerback +175
  • Offensive Lineman +600
  • Defensive Lineman +1000
  • Linebacker +1100
  • Quarterback +1600
  • Tight End +2500
  • Safety +5000
  • Running back +6600
  • Kicker/punter/long snapper +50000

Playing position of Philadelphia Eagles first drafted player

  • Offense (-139)/Defense (+112)

There isn’t a 12th overall pick odds market. But we can look at player draft position markets to try to get an idea of who the Birds will pick (if Howie doesn’t make another trade).

  • DeVonta Smith: Over 11.5 (-112)/Under 11.5 (-112)
  • Jaycee Horn: Over 13.5 (-112)/Under 13.5 (-112)
  • Micah Parsons: Over 11.5 (-125)/Under 11.5 (+101)
  • Jaylen Waddle: Over 11.5 (-125)/Under 11.5 (+101)
  • Patrick Surtain: Over 10.5 (-112)/Under 10.5 (-112)

$1.8 million winner sold in San Francisco

The last drawing on Tuesday, April 23 had two second-place Match 5 winners. As a recap, the winning numbers were 6 – 23 – 43 – 49 – 52 with a gold Mega Ball of 5.

While both tickets matched all five white balls, the winner in KY won $1 million and the CA winner won $1.8 million. So, what gives?

Typically, a Match 5 or second-place winner is worth $1 million without the $1 optional Megaplier add-on. However, in CA, the Mega Millions prize amounts are pari-mutuel. Therefore, the prizes vary depending on ticket sales and number of winners. In this case, the pari-mutuel determination worked out in favor of the winner.

According to the CA Lottery, the winning ticket was sold at Richmond New May Wah Supermarket located on 707 Clement St. in San Francisco, CA. Meanwhile, the Kentucky ticket was sold at Murphy Express on Codella Drive in Winchester, KY.

Mega Millions online

Try buying your Mega Millions tickets online for tonight’s drawing. The PA online lottery sells tickets to the Mega Millions, Powerball and more. Best of all, there is a welcome bonus for new players along with other fun incentives for being an existing customer.

Other than Pennsylvania, there are other states where you can buy lottery tickets online:

  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Kentucky
  • New Hampshire
  • North Carolina
  • North Dakota
  • New York

Have a happy weekend and please play responsibly.

Second State launches VGTs at PA Love's

Video gaming terminals, usually called simply VGTs, are filling in the gambling void between Pennsylvania’s 12 casinos, with locations in every quadrant of the state. By design, they are not too close to casinos.

A new operator, Second State, just entered the PA market in the past week, with three locations in Southeast PA and a fourth location in the Northeast.

“We’re thrilled to be able to provide truck stop owners in Pennsylvania with new state-approved gaming options,” said Jennifer Caruso, vice president of operations for Second State Gaming.

“VGTs will allow these Love’s locations to expand their offerings, grow their foot traffic and increase revenues. We look forward to serving gaming patrons and helping these locations succeed.”

Four new VGT locations from Second State

The locations, all at Love’s Travel Stops, are:

  • 1165 Harrisburg Pike, Carlisle, Cumberland County
  • 3700 Mountain Road, Hamburg, Berks County
  • 22 Old Forge Road, Jonestown, Lebanon County
  • 440 W. 3rd St., Mifflinville, Columbia County

Each spot has five machines, the maximum allowed for the slot-like devices.

Pennsylvania VGT location listings in PA

Throughout the state, there are now 34 locations, each with five devices, for a total of 170 machines.

VGTs accept only cash. By law, the maximum bet allowed on a VGT is $5. The maximum payout is $1,000. Only authorized diesel truck stops host the machines.

Since the first VGTs launched in PA in September 2019, the machines have brought in more than $3.5 million in tax revenue for the state (through June). That was with zero revenue during April and May when all the machines were off-limits due to virus precaution mandates.

VGTs bounced back in a big way in June, though, posting their third-best revenue month. The state received $560,261 from VGT taxes in June, which was bested by January ($579,914) and February ($697,806).

Playin Pennsylvania has a complete list of VGT locations, organized by quadrants of PA.

Approval for Second State VGTs took two years

Bill Bork, a locations relations manager for Second State, said his company began the approval process two years ago and only just got the go-ahead to open from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).

The machines required licensing, inspection and testing, as well as following coronavirus health and safety guidelines. The pandemic shuttered all previously approved machines until just recently.

The new Second State locations have plexiglass dividers, social distancing markers and hand sanitizer, and they require the wearing of masks, Bork said. There is video surveillance of the VGT rooms.

About half of VGT customers are local

VGTs have split customer appeal, according to Bork.

By design, VGTs provide roadside entertainment for truckers. By law, drivers must spend eight hours off the road every day.

But about half of those who play VGTs are local residents, living fewer than 10 miles away. They choose VGTs over driving to more distant brick-and-mortar casinos, Bork said surveys have shown.

He is looking for more locations in PA for Second State as VGT expansion continues in the commonwealth.

Grading Colin Cowherd draft picks

Nine online sportsbooks in Pennsylvania present lots of lines, betting markets, boosts, tweets and promotions. The coronavirus pandemic forced the shutdown of major sports and has made the books get creative.

There are still options for bettors with live events and futures betting. Here is a full list of options that are currently available to bet on even amid coronavirus shutdowns.

UFC 249 is rescheduled for Saturday, May 9. BetRivers and PlaySugarHouse have a variety of betting options and lines for each of the 12 fights. In the main event, Tony Ferguson (-167) remains the favorite against Justin Gaethje (+155) for the interim lightweight title.

Top-ranked Ferguson had been -190 and fourth-ranked Gaethje +155 for the original April 18 matchup that was canceled.

With the NFL Draft in the rearview, PA sportsbooks have Steelers futures and player prop odds posted. If that’s not enough, there are also MLB futures and table tennis betting options.

Cowboys are now favorites in NFC East

The Philadelphia Eagles-Dallas Cowboys rivalry even has drama in the offseason. The Cowboys scooped up Oklahoma wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who slipped to #17 in the NFL Draft.

Pre-draft rumors indicated the Eagles coveted Lamb. Here’s a look at the new NFC East winner odds at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Mocking Cowherd’s draft

PAOnlineCasino.com tracked Colin Cowherd’s Marquee 3 and Blazin’ 5 picks. He had a subpar college football season and a mediocre record picking the NFL. How did Cowherd make out with his 2020 mock draft?

He got four of the first five picks “right.” But Cowherd incorrectly predicted the Chargers would trade up with the Lions. They didn’t, but both landed the players Cowherd predicted.

Out of the 32 picks in the first round, Cowherd correctly matched eight players to the correct teams. An additional player, Jeff Gladney, was selected where Cowherd slotted but not by the team he predicted. If we were a kind grader and didn’t take into account the trades, Cowherd correctly predicted 28% of the picks.

Pittsburgh Steelers futures bets

There are plenty of Pittsburgh Steelers futures bets at Unibet online sportsbook.

Ben Roethlisberger specials

  • Regular season total passing yards: Over/under 4000.5
  • Regular season passing touchdowns: Over/under 27.5

JuJu Smith-Schuster specials

  • Regular season total receiving yards: Over/under 1175.5

Pittsburgh Steelers odds

  • Super Bowl: +2,800
  • AFC North: +350
  • Over/under wins: 8.5
  • To make playoffs: Yes (-121), No (+100)

Ben Roethlisberger suffered a season-ending elbow injury during week 2. At FanDuel Sportsbook, Big Ben and newly un-retired Rob Gronkowski are the favorites to claim Comeback Player of the Year.

Fox Bet baseball props

With the length of the MLB season in question, the Fox Bet player prop future market is an interesting option.

It includes:

  • Most regular season hits
  • Most runs
  • Most strikeouts
  • Most home runs

Fox Bet is usually generous with bet boosts and a few are available:

  • Jean Segura to record the most hits in the regular season boosted from +2200 to +2,500.
  • Mike Trout to record the most runs in the regular season boosted from +800 to +1.000.
  • Max Scherzer to record the most strikeouts in the regular season boosted from +600 to +700.

Other Philadelphia Phillies related bet boosts available at FOX Bet:

  • Philadelphia Phillies to win the World Series boosted from +2,000 to +2,500
  • Bryce Harper to win National League MVP boosted from +1600 to +2,000
  • Aaron Nola to win NL Cy Young Award boosted from +2,200 to +2,800

Table tennis tourney

Table tennis has accounted for the majority of the handle at PA sportsbooks during major sports shutdowns.

FanDuel’s Table Tennis Tournament gives the user the chance to compete against other players for a part of a $10,000 prize pool.

How to play:

  • The tournament starts on April 27 and runs through May 11
  • Users must opt-in
  • Min. $5 bet
  • Earn points for winning wagers placed on table tennis. The number of points earned for each successful wager depends on the odds of the wager.
  • At the end of the promotion period, the top 50 participants (in terms of accumulated points) will earn a bonus in site credit based on their placement.

Big winners

Some PA bettors scored big recently on high-ROI soccer bets.

Fetch a winner

Like last week, trying to close this week’s “Best of the Books” on a positive note.

If you prefer simulcast betting and the racetrack atmosphere to view the Run for the Roses, you also have that option in PA.

Half of Pennsylvania horse tracks will be going along for the ride, tapping into the event’s long tradition and the 147th running of the event.

Three tracks are racing on Derby day

The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono

Address: 1280 Pennsylvania 315, Wilkes-Barre

Harness racing at the Downs begins at 12:30 p.m. Guests may watch from the live Racing Apron just outside the simulcast area. However, no Derby broadcast on the Jumbotron outside.

But the race is viewable in the simulcast area and screens in the Pacer’s Clubhouse, which will not be serving food or drink. However, a small portable bar will operate at an access escalator.

Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino & Racetrack

Address: 777 Harrah’s Blvd., Chester

Harness racing at Harrah’s begins at 12:40 p.m. There will be live music and food and drink, including juleps, on the deck and grandstand from 1 p.m to 7 p.m., as well as strolling entertainers.

The track is a featured setting in the Netflix movie Concrete Cowboy. The Derby broadcast is visible outside as well as in the simulcast area. And the event is touted as child-friendly.

The Meadows Racetrack & Casino

Address: 210 Racetrack Rd., Washington

Harness racing at The Meadow’s begins at 11:25 p.m. There will be food trucks outside, and beverages are available. Patrons can see The Derby on a big screen outside. Broadcasts are also at the H Lounge, in the simulcast area, and at the sportsbook.

Not racing on Derby Day are the state’s three thoroughbred tracks:

  • Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course
  • Parx Racing at Parx Casino
  • Presque Isle Downs & Casino

While they won’t have live racing, Penn National Race Course will host a family-friendly viewing party at 2 p.m. “with simulcast of the races, music, food trucks and more.”

State College PA site of final mini-casino license

Ira Lubert, a minority shareholder in Rivers Casino Pittsburgh, was declared the winning auction bidder for a mini-casino license Wednesday morning by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).

The proposed location is near Penn State University. Lubert graduated from PSU. He is on the university’s board of trustees and has been honored for his service to the school.

Lubert works in the equity and real estate business

Lubert is principally a real estate and private equity manager based in Philadelphia. His bid was $10,000,101.

He was a part of the opening of Valley Forge Casino in 2012.

Cordish likely unsuccessful competitor to Lubert

A second bid, presumably from the Cordish Companies, which had previously said it intended to bid, was also submitted.

But PGCB did not reveal the amount of the second bid. Cordish is developing a full-sized casino in Philadelphia and a mini-casino near Pittsburgh under the Live! Casino name. A spokesperson for Live! did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Mini-casino to go up near Unionville in Centre County

Lubert’s submission named the tiny Centre County town of Unionville as the center of where he proposes to build within a 30-mile diameter circle. The exact location is to be named later.

A tiny town with fewer than 300 residents, Unionville is probably not the actual location. However, it is about 10 miles away from Penn State University.

During the weekends of Penn State football home games, the population of State College, which is about 43,447, grows to over 100,000. It transforms from a college town to the third-largest populated municipality (behind Philadelphia and Pittsburgh) in the state.

In addition, the possible location of Lubert’s mini-casino would put it within a one-hour drive for many living in Central PA.

While the Borough of State College opted out of hosting a mini-casino when it had the chance in early 2018, neighboring College Township in Centre County did not.

Likely location a College Township mall

Two years ago, Lubert was part of Nittany Gaming LLC. The company had an option to lease a former department store in the struggling Nittany Mall in College Township.

Just this year, seven businesses in the mall closed, while others relocated. A closed Macy’s store seems the likely location for the mini-casino.

The mall is at the intersections of Route 150 and Route 26, one mile off the I-99 corridor, the major highway in the area.

What will Lubert’s PA mini-casino offer?

Lubert must pay the bid price to PA within two business days. Then he has up to six months to apply for the Category 4 Slot Machine License. A message for Lubert left with his assistant was not immediately returned.

As a mini-casino, the planned facility can contain up to 750 slot machines.

Lubert could also petition to initially operate up to 30 table games for an additional fee of $2.5 million. An additional 10 table games can operate after a year.

This should end mini-casino auctions

This should bring the auction of PA mini-casino licenses to a close.

The mini license Lubert bid on became available when Mount Airy Casino was denied a license by the PGCB last November.
