FanDuel and IGT extend partnership for expansion adventure

The happy couple just renewed their vows.

IGT (International Game Technology) already powers FanDuel-branded sportsbooks in nine different states. It fuels the country’s highest-volume sportsbook at the Meadowlands in New Jersey and Pennsylvania’s top-performing sportsbook based at Valley Forge Casino.

Things are working out just fine.

So yesterday, IGT and FanDuel took it one step further. The two entities announced an extension of their partnership that will make IGT’s PlaySports platform the provider for FanDuel’s new and existing sportsbooks through at least 2024.

In the agreement, FanDuel also pledged to continue offering IGT PlayDigital’s PlayCasino games in states where FanDuel operates online casinos. Those online slots include Wheel of Fortune, Triple Extreme Spin, Triple Red Hot 7s Free Games and Red Hot Tamales.

“IGT’s PlaySports platform has been integral to FanDuel Sportsbook’s expansion in the US. We currently leverage it to power America’s No. 1 sportsbook,” said Matt King, CEO of the FanDuel Group. “IGT is the strategic partner that we will lean on to help us expand our retail footprint across the US.”

FanDuel finished first among PA sportsbooks in June numbers

IGT’s technology already powers the popular FanDuel Sportsbook in Pennsylvania, which has its brick-and-mortar location at the Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia. That location and its affiliated mobile app led all of Pennsylvania’s sportsbooks in both handle and revenue during the month of June.

In June, FanDuel took in $32.9 million in handle and recorded $2.8 million in revenue. That’s especially noteworthy considering the sports world was rather quiet then and wagers were made almost exclusively online. DraftKings was second with $25.1 million in handle and $1.3 million in revenue.

FanDuel’s operations should grow alongside US sports betting

Now, with a long-term agreement in hand, look for FanDuel and IGT’s partnership to begin bearing similar fruit in other states. With government budgets already strained by the coronavirus pandemic, it’s logical to expect a gradual expansion of legal sports betting in the United States.

And FanDuel, which already has retail sportsbooks in nine states and online sportsbooks in five, should extend its own presence right alongside that growth. IGT will be there to help power it all.

“IGT and FanDuel Group are positioned for continued success in the US,” said Enrico Drago, IGT PlayDigital senior vice president. “We are committed to fueling FanDuel Sportsbooks’ sustained growth through our proven, market-ready platform, player-preferred game content and self-service betting technologies.”

Everyone can see it. The marriage has been working out just fine. Since its inception, the IGT and FanDuel partnership has produced a powerhouse sportsbook in New Jersey. It has created an industry leader in Pennsylvania. And it will soon gain a foothold in other states too.

So there was no reason to change anything now. It made sense to ride the wave. Feel the love. And keep growing together.
